At first glance here's what I see is new in Multi..

Herbie Hancock - Sextant

Looks like for the MFSB disc, only one of the two albums (Philadelphia Freedom) is 4.0, the other is 2.0.

N.B. In addition to both the original stereo and discrete quadraphonic mixes, the SACD and PCM layers on this disc include the original SQ-encoded quadraphonic mix [tracks 4-6]. The original discrete quadraphonic master no longer exists. Therefore, the best available discrete quadraphonic sources have been used for this reissue.

Wonder what sources were used for the discrete multichannel layer.

Now, I just need to decide which ones to buy!

The Guess Who disc is a definite! MFSB & "Sextant" are maybes.

It's interesting to note that D~V's QUAD release of Donald Byrd's Black Byrd hails from the Blue Note Jazz Label, only previously had a Q8 release and the RBCD at AmazonUS is currently priced @ $31!

can you shed any light on the following please?

i'm curious,
1.) how do you rate MFSB's "Summertime"? its the only one of their 70's records i've never heard, from sample clips on iTunes it sounds kinda different to their other albums?

2.) what's the surround mix like on the Donald Byrd Quad? the SQ LP was an unmarked Blue Note Quad (wow!) and i never found the Q8, so never heard it before!

3.) do you know what sources were used for "Sextant"? is the discrete from Q8? is the SQ a needledrop?
