Of course, you can always request a refund for damaged goods. Ebay is pretty adamant about buyer protection that way.
What a bummer. I just ran to the hardware store and picked up a 5 volt fuse and that doesn't work. This thing is DOA. I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps in the manual. Yes, I've made sure it's plugged in to several different outlets and battery backup units. Any troubleshooting advice out there?

The guy who sold this has about 50 positive reviews of how great items are packaged. To me it looks like he was setting it up to ship it and forgot to add packing peanuts the way he had it laid out. Otherwise the dude was sleeping at the wheel when this was packaged. I really dislike shipping vintage products, it's like it's been trying to cheat death for half a century then we go and put it in the hands of UPS, FedEx or USPS. Like taking grandma off life support to see if she will still breathe in a couple days shipping time.

Sadly, SQ-W is not in my destiny today. The seller replied that it was death by packing place... If you want it done right you got to pack it yourself! I'm asking if he can get it to work again to let me know and I'll buy it again. I really had my hopes up too, it's all plugged in ready to go but nothing happens when it's turned on, usually at least a click of something in there but not even that. In the end, I at least am getting a good laugh out of the seller response below:

I’m so sorry about this. I brought it to a pack and ship place and it looks like they barely packed it. I sent you a return shipping label and okayed the refund. eBay processes the refund and sends it to you after the item is returned. I have kind of an ironic request- could you throw some packing in there? Just some crumpled up newspaper or something. Anything will be fine. I might be able to salvage it if there’s no more damage. Thanks. Sorry again.

I'm more than a bit surprised that a shipper would do such a crap job, but if you get something broken, it's the seller's responsibility. I've been bit by that myself, and I'm in a fight with the USPS over a shipment insured for over $500, with $150 shipping each way. It wasn't electronics, it was a ceramic geegaw that was my mother's, and it arrived with minor damage. The buyer, for reasons he wouldn't explain, was unwilling to get it repaired, so I ended up taking it in the shorts.

Hopefully, you're willing to work with the seller. I find cooperation goes a long way. If you have any old packing peanuts, they would be a nice addition to the shipment back. I hope the damage is fixable, but that's hard to say right now. Hopefully, the seller will have learned that the packing place is incompetent, and that they will do some covering of the loss.

Hey all. I’m currently working remotely from my home- have been for a few years now - and I have a few Lafayette units (amongst other things like a couple of Tate 101A and a composer my apologies to earlier correspondents I been less than a week back home at anytime) that all need to be retested/assessed before I move them on. I’m not back home until end June so if your still looking or anyone else is I have a few units.

Does anyone else know about the difference between the units that have lowercase v uppercase text on the units? I once read the uppercase had improved circuits of some sort.

I'm definitely interested. Can you send me a message on here and I'll get you my phone number?

I've read up on that. When the Lafayette adapter is all caps versus lowercase. You have a different model. And that was the only way to tell!

So no substantive differences?
I found where there is a discussion on this here on this site. Check it out. I don't know if anyone came to a conclusion of which was actually which or how to be sure for sure.

"I think this is visited in an earlier part of the thread. LAFAYETTE labeled SQ-W’s are said to be Full Logic but absent VariBlend. Yours are both “Lafayette” SQ-W‘s. In theory, yours both appear to the later model with VariBlend."

In the past few weeks it seems people are harvesting these to grow more. I hope that's the case. Seeing how active this thread is I might as well ask here, if anyone has one hooked up I really just want to hear what it's all about. I will fly out to you and bring some of my favorite quad and non quad albums to compare how it sounds. If I can hear a difference I'll keep trying to find my own, if I can't then I can say I actually heard wave matching tech in person before there were none left to hear it at all. Appreciate anyone gracious enough to open up their home for a demo. Thanks!

I picked up a LR-3000 without CD4 and a LR-5000 with CD4 but it's not turning on just doing 4ch stereo, the 30khz warble tone is not playing and the light not turning on. Process of elimination "Did you try it in another receiver?" I'm about to! For whoever wanted some pictures of this. Let me know if I can take anything specific for you. I'm noticing the connector on the 5000 is different from the connector on the 3000. At least on what I have here. Hopefully I don't blow this thing up by plugging it into the 3000. Here goes nothing.

The 5000 only has a top row of gold connectors and the CD4 module that came with it only has a top row of gold pins. The 3000 has two rows of gold connectors....

That is the LR-3030. I am looking for the LR-3000 Service Manual.
Good luck getting registered to the HiFiEngine. This is what I get when going to that site. Perhaps with all the others who have access to this (and constantly plug the pay for play site) can get the manual for us?

Account Registration
Sorry, but we are not accepting new registrations at this time.

I have been registered on the HIFIEngine site for a while, but they do not have the LR-3000 Manuals on the site.

Sadly I threw the fuse on my 3000. Anyone ever accidentally leave an external preamp on when connecting to the phono input? It blows the fuse as soon as it's turned on so far gone through 6 of 18 pack of fuses, nothing plugged in at all and still the same outcome. What do you check first to get it back to life?

Opps! I know that I searched for the LR-3000 but the LR-3030 came up. Perhaps that manual is close enough to provide the information that you need?

A.G. Tannenbaum

It is listed on this site for $22.00. I purchased a manual from them years ago. The site looks to not have been updated in years so I would check first to see if they are still active.

My guess is that the high level input through the phono stage took out one or both of the power amplifiers. If you look inside you may find blown/burnt resistors on the amplifier board near the output transistors. The output transistors will be seen mounted to a heatsink.

Looking at it, it's got the most basic heat sink I've ever seen! It's just a chunk of metal LOL. Here's some shots of the resistors but I'm not seeing anything that looks burnt or caps that look bloated. Anything look out of wack here?
