Saw him LIVE at a small venue in Manhattan many moons ago and was a BIG fan. Whatever happened to GINO?

From wiki: This is great!

" Vannelli and his brother, Joe, moved to Los Angeles in 1972. Desperate and broke, they waited for hours in the parking lot outside A&M Studios, hoping to get a record deal. When Herb Alpert, the co-owner of A&M Records, finally emerged, Vannelli ran toward him and gave him a demo tape while being chased by security guards.[6] Alpert signed Vannelli and released his debut album, Crazy Life, in the summer of 1973.[7]"

I have some of his records but have never listened to them. Will have to check them out

Gino Vannelli - Powerful People - CD

Chris Rea - (Blue Guitars)

Impressive and ambitious 11 disc project. Beautifully packaged with lots of his amazing artwork.
Some of the disc themes work better than others, and some are stretched a bit thin but generally most of the songs range from very good to excellent.
The occasional intentionally lo-fi sound and record noise are a bit annoying but that’s a nitpick.
Played it all together, uninterrupted by other music, over 5 or 6 nights, best way to absorb and appreciate it.
Quite an achievement.

I'm a mega Gino Vannelli fan. Bought them all on LP and again on CD .

Speaking of Joe Vannelli, I just gave another spin a few days ago to 2020's Step Up. It is credited to Tower of Power, produced by Joe Vannelli and Emilio Castillo. Joe also guests on keys, percussion, vibes, marimba, and serves as recording and mixing engineer.

For you Gino fans, try the Mofi 1/2 speed of Powerful People, and the Nautilis 1/2 speed or 1/2 speed dbx LP's of Brother to Brother. (dbx requires decoder.)

I suggest a couple I was planning to spin soon, both highly recommended:

Techno Gino (and a couple ballads):

Beatles in Mono Japan CD box has all albums' (EXCEPT Abbey Rd & Let it Be) UK versions in mono. It also has first-time mono mixes of Bulldog, All Together, Northern Song and It's All Too Much from Yellow Submarine. Help & Rubber Soul feature orig 2ch mixes, as well as their mono mixes. Strongly recommended for any Beatle completist.

Abbey Rd. & Let It Be were only issued in mono in red UK LP box from 1981. They are not dedicated mono mixes, but foldover mixes derived from 2ch mix.

Finished listening to all 11 of my new MQA Stereo Rare Earth discs.
Sonic quality throughout absolutely stellar, great stereo nice and wide right and left sides, great phantom center. Bass, drums, organ, percussion and vocals, can't beat it.
The early years remind me of Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly. They are associated with Motown so a lot of Motown covers as they develop. Great extended jam band with lots of solos, the later discs they found there calling and where a very strong funk band.
I don't think I have ever had a problem with any Japanese releases, maybe 1 or 2 for the sake of argument, but they really now how to put out a good product.
It took a couple weeks, but I enjoyed the musical history lesson of Rare Earth.
This picture last I listened to.

Great spins Qlinda !

Oh to have seen Weather Report w/Jaco live. WOW !!!!!!!

Zawinul says "now we're going to let Jaco do his thing." Jaco proceeded to climb on amp, sat atop it, jammed a bit and then broke into Purple Haze. All solo on bass!

I also got some percussion tutelage from WR's original percussionist, Airto Moriera. It was in early 80's, courtesy of Slingerland Drums, later acquired by Gibson. A memorable experience of a lifetime. Listen to Toque de Cuica on Airto's Touching Me album, and you'll hear him playing most every instrument with sticks, even conga, etc. Received some great tips, a shirt, got LP's autographed, and more than a few anecdotes about other "moosicians," as he referred to them. I'll never tell! LOL
