Honestly, I just think amlor is a totally different animal in the era of Floyd. It's a miracle it sounds as awesome as it does considering 1993, etc. To my ears, it's just a bit thick sounding. I adjusted my sub for the first time in a LONG time. I found it more pleasing after that....and I just turned up the volume and it sounded great.

I am slightly bummed with the song One Slip. Why? Because, really, I want to be able to hear vocals a bit more clearly. They occasionally get lost with all the other stuff going on. At least on my system they do. Still, it's good.

Well I’m still learning how to interpret wave forms, but the majority of the tracks looked a little bass heavy, so that would make sense with your sub comment. That would also affect how different speakers handle the bass, depending on how each listener’s bass management is set. Maybe 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone else think that on the BluRay of the surround mixes (Disc 8) that The Division Bell sounds a lot better than Momentary Lapse? Compared to The Division Bell, Momentary almost sounds a bit muddy to me. Of course, it could be my shitty hearing but TDB hell, I forgot how great that surround mix was - and how clear and defined it sounded.
On sort of the same note, I ripped the 2019 Division Bell just to see for comparison, I have the 5.1 DVD and the 5.1 Bluray and I feel like this new 2019 Blu Ray sounds a little better, more fidelity, more stronger. I know that they are supposed to be the same 2014 mix but I hear what I hear.

That looks quite respectable to me. The original 87 release was the same.

I usually like to "fiddle about" with the bass management to get the sound dialed into my liking.

I think what happens this time of year is that the drivers have so many packages that they actually screw up and miss one, then don't have time to go back in their route so they just leave it there for the next day. Hey, we all screw up at times.

Yeah, I'm fine if it's a human thing. I don't want the drivers being exhausted and hungry and all that stuff. But I'm pretty annoyed with the way UPS keeps changing the story. It was out for delivery, then they never got it, then it was going to get here between 11:00 and 3:00 today, now it's back to between 5:00 and 8:30.

Back on topic here:

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the "Momentary Lapse of Reason" 5.1 audio and mix, which is the main reason that I went for this monster box, is down right disappointing. I listened to it yesterday on a home system, ripped all of the 5.1 audio to USB and configured it for my car, then listened again on the way into work this morning and on the way home (45-60 minutes each way). I listened to the entire MLoR in 5.1 again and kept trying to get into the mix. It's just not there. Then I thought, well, it IS a car system, and my ears ain't what they used to be, then I switched over to "The Division Bell". NIGHT AND DAY. NIGHT AND F'ing DAY. It wasn't me, it wasn't the car, it wasn't the bass and treble and all, it was sublime! The first track was a surround spectacular, and "What Do You Want From Me" sounded like you would want that track to sound. Open, clean, directional, a beauty. A pure demo track.

MLoR? No way would I ever demo it. I kept having to strain to hear the lead vocal. The mass of sound around that vocal was cloudy and hard to define. Oh, I knew what song it was, but I was wishing I had my old original CD ripped to compare, because this sounded so bad. I said to myself that this album will not make it to my big HD that I keep in the car because I will never want to hear it again. The poor SQ made me reflect back to the original reviews which called the album "lacking", and more like a DG solo effort.

It sucks because I wanted it to sound so good. $300 good.

These opinions are mine, not yours, not the forums. I will have to queue up the different versions of this when I get a chance on the big system to hear if the DTS-HD Master Audio version is just crappy while the others are better. I will try that and report back.

In the mean time as more of you get this I'd love to hear what you think. Maybe I expected too much.

Maybe

Thanks for the review. AMLOR in 5.1 was pretty much the only reason I was considering the purchase but unless I manage to get it REALLY cheap, it ain't happening if the 5.1 mix is a dud. You saved me some bucks! More money for the new sub fund.

Jon, have you tried DSOT? I opened my box 15 minutes ago and went straight to sample the concert. It's late here and I can't play it in the loudspeakers, so I'm on headphones and the stereo sound is pretty good, crystal clear and not as bass heavy as AMLOR in surround (I'm playing it with volume knob set to 60 and so far, so good)

Don't base your purchase on me. We need more folks to chime in and see if I'm full of shit! :)
