David Sarnoff of RCA was a big supporter of color TV and had enough influence in RCA to justify spending extra money on TV show production to make an ever increasing number of TV shows on NBC in color, even though, 10 years after the intro of color TV (~1954 to 1964) only ~3% of (USA) TV viewers had a color TV.
I can't think of a Quad/Surround cheerleader comparable to David Sarnoff, maybe if there had been one or two, Quad could have survived the lean, early adoption years and become the norm for disc, tape, radio audio.
