SQ and Open Air Headphones

In the Ken Rasek Recording in Surround extra on the Buddy Rich DVD, he says that open air stereo headphones can provide a sort of surround effect from SQ encoded content, I don't have any open air headphones around here, has anyone tried this?

This goes back to other threads about passive decoding via headphones. I don't know why open air headphones would image differently than closed ones but Ben Bauer claimed that headphone listening of SQ produced a quad affect. A few claim it works but most don't. Any quad encoded material will produce a pleasing effect via headphones however, a richer fuller sound than regular stereo produces. The ear is sensitive to phase especially through headphones.
