BSM is rapidly becoming WTF with me; happenings at BSM thru this weekend:
1. page worth of Viagra SPAM - no visible moderator or Contact Us link in sight...
Place your bets on how long it takes for Warner to fix this. This will show us how closely they are looking at posts on the BSM site. I did email Warner but they have no clue on BSM unless they develop some curiosity.
2. Another 5.1 naysayer takes a dull-witted slap at DVD-A, posting this gem:
R.I.P. - 5.1

Thanks for releasing all this great vinyl guys. As for the DVD-A stuff - hasn't this been tried before with QUAD?
SACD and 5.1 is DEAD!
LONG LIVE STEREO!!!

I responded with both barrels (in the nicest possible way):
5.1 Lives On In Every Home Theatre Waiting For More Music

Thanks for posting your justification about rejecting the future and suggesting we give up on our pursuits while flaunting your old format. I'm really touched by such a supportive sentiment.
Stereo is fine, but there is no reason we have to limit ourselves to only that since it's not 1962. I've been enjoying as much surround music as I can get for the past 35 years. It only gets better in terms of quality. Now let's address this generalization of yours...
Formats wither primarily because of A) format wars and B) poor promotion; NOT because they aren't advancing the state of the art in music.
SACD: I'm enjoing that Genesis 1976-82 SACD box set I got last week so much, I preordered the 2nd box that is due in Sept 2007. And I can't wait for the 3rd Peter Gabriel years Genesis SACD box set in early 2008. These are mixed and ready, so have no fear about them coming out.
True, I have to buy these as imports because US Atlantic got cold feet (but delivers DTS 96/24 5.1 mixes on DVD discs instead), you do what you have to do. This is a good system and the fact that these 5.1 mixes were included shows it's not dead yet.
If SACD is dead as you say, then DVD-Audio can flourish because the format war doesn't exist. We can make DVD-A work in direct internet sales because we're not worried about promotion to help Joe Sixpack figuring it out. The people that need to be reached are here and ready to buy.
So we will continue to pursue DVD-A thru becausesoundmatters.com as our best opportunity to get what many of these members want to buy; their favorite WEA artists released with DVD-A high resolution surround to properly impress our 2.0 vinyl friends.
More so every day, surround (5.1, 6.1 & 7.1) itself is a cornerstone of home theatre with thousands of DVD-V titles, hundreds of DVD-A discs and more on the way. As people are exposed to hi res surround music, the more it will eventually become a standard rather than an option. As you've illustrated with your post, you can't appreciate what you can't articulate.
Since you're getting so much great vinyl, it should be no skin off your nose for us DVD-A fans to get what we want too. Live and let live. Peace out.
