BSM is rapidly becoming WTF with me; happenings at BSM thru this weekend:

1. page worth of Viagra SPAM - no visible moderator or Contact Us link in sight...

Place your bets on how long it takes for Warner to fix this. This will show us how closely they are looking at posts on the BSM site. I did email Warner but they have no clue on BSM unless they develop some curiosity.

2. Another 5.1 naysayer takes a dull-witted slap at DVD-A, posting this gem:

R.I.P. - 5.1

Thanks for releasing all this great vinyl guys. As for the DVD-A stuff - hasn't this been tried before with QUAD?

SACD and 5.1 is DEAD!

LONG LIVE STEREO!!!

I responded with both barrels (in the nicest possible way):

5.1 Lives On In Every Home Theatre Waiting For More Music

Thanks for posting your justification about rejecting the future and suggesting we give up on our pursuits while flaunting your old format. I'm really touched by such a supportive sentiment.

Stereo is fine, but there is no reason we have to limit ourselves to only that since it's not 1962. I've been enjoying as much surround music as I can get for the past 35 years. It only gets better in terms of quality. Now let's address this generalization of yours...

Formats wither primarily because of A) format wars and B) poor promotion; NOT because they aren't advancing the state of the art in music.

SACD: I'm enjoing that Genesis 1976-82 SACD box set I got last week so much, I preordered the 2nd box that is due in Sept 2007. And I can't wait for the 3rd Peter Gabriel years Genesis SACD box set in early 2008. These are mixed and ready, so have no fear about them coming out.

True, I have to buy these as imports because US Atlantic got cold feet (but delivers DTS 96/24 5.1 mixes on DVD discs instead), you do what you have to do. This is a good system and the fact that these 5.1 mixes were included shows it's not dead yet.

If SACD is dead as you say, then DVD-Audio can flourish because the format war doesn't exist. We can make DVD-A work in direct internet sales because we're not worried about promotion to help Joe Sixpack figuring it out. The people that need to be reached are here and ready to buy.

So we will continue to pursue DVD-A thru becausesoundmatters.com as our best opportunity to get what many of these members want to buy; their favorite WEA artists released with DVD-A high resolution surround to properly impress our 2.0 vinyl friends.

More so every day, surround (5.1, 6.1 & 7.1) itself is a cornerstone of home theatre with thousands of DVD-V titles, hundreds of DVD-A discs and more on the way. As people are exposed to hi res surround music, the more it will eventually become a standard rather than an option. As you've illustrated with your post, you can't appreciate what you can't articulate.

Since you're getting so much great vinyl, it should be no skin off your nose for us DVD-A fans to get what we want too. Live and let live. Peace out.

Thanks for sticking up for us over there, Tim. I hate to say that this is exactly what I expected would happen from the get go - nothing. But, the time will come again when the music corporations decide they need a copy proof delivery system and feel the pressure to give consumers some added value to sweeten the deal. We have to make sure that they know we want that better product to include surround.

Yes, thanks for taking the time to reply and show that some of us dearly love our multi-channel music.

I never was really good at getting into pissing matches, but I always tried to portray surround in a positive light and promote it as best I can. Having it all pulled out from under us took a little bit out of me, though. That said, I'm still with y'all. All 5.1 of us who still actually like the stuff.

It's so easy to say

"something sucks/is dead/, etc"

It's learned at childhood. Sometimes it's best to ignore these guys.

I suppose, but there is some satisfaction in rubbing such a a vacant mean-spirited comment in a poster's face and promote the facts for any other naysayers in the process.

The site needs a moderator and I'd actually do it. That damn Viagra spam would have lasted less than an hour. (Saturday after all....)

Just because the record companies haven't been smart enough to differentiate DVD-A or price it appropriately, doesn't mean there isn't a market for surround audio. When DVD-A discs first came out, I had no idea what they were. I saw a Sheryl Crow Globe Sessions DVD-A (priced at $30) next to a Sheryl Crow Globe Live DVD movie (priced at $20). Naturally, I thought to myself: Why would I pay $30 for just the audio when I can get the video too for $20? The average consumer does NOT understand the difference or that DD5.1 and DTS are compressed and lossy. Clearly, from the recent Rush and Linkin Park MVI discs, the record labels THEMSELVES are missing the point.

Getting pretty pissed with BSM's non-performance:

BSM: Spam, Spam, Seduced And....... Spam

Since this site lacks Contact Us links, the runner-up is the Warner Brothers Music Store. 'Contact [email protected] with problems, questions and comments concerning this web site.'

Receiving only a canned response on Mon 7/16, I just placed a phone call to Warner Brothers to explain this situation and "could not be connected to anyone because I didn't have a contact name." I was also told "I'm sure they are aware of the problem and working on it."

Maybe a few of you are interested in letting WB know of this problem through one of these channels; a few more msgs might do something.

BSM: Please get the act together soon. If your intent is not to turn us off as consumers, please demonstrate by removing spam and giving us some updates. Thank you.

UPDATE: Day 9: Spam Removed; Can News Be Far Behind?

Someone with moderator rights has just removed the spam, which is most appreciated. If somebody got directly through to BSM, thanks.

Now if someone at BSM would please be kind enough to drop us a line as to when we can expect some DVD-A news, the day would be complete.

The wait began in January for some of us!
