One of the perks of being in the audio business is the ability to read things in trade publications that often don't get into general media until it actually is imminent. I just read about a new format, to be introduced later this year by Warner Music, that will be called the DVD Album. It will be a two-disc format, one a CD, the other a DVD, which is essentially like a dual disc, but without the limitations. They plan to use the DVD disc for the album in either 96/24 stereo or DVD-A 5.1, or both, along with more video clips than can be supported on a dual disc. Titles and pricing have not yet been finalized, but we should know something soon. If they do this right, it can become the replacement for the lowly CD. Or, at least, that's what the article said.
