Over the past week I’ve been listening to Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band “the complete radio broadcasts 1978” 15 CD box set and it’s AWESOME.....and no it’s no longer a BOOTLEG collection!! It’s on the Sound Stage label.

The best these shows have ever sounded!!

Bruce & the band were on fire 1978. These shows are legendary. And as much as I know he hated the proliferation of bootlegs that were staring to circulate around this time, I really do think they played a large roll in solidifying his reputation as a must-see live act. I always felt the studio LPs never did him justice. As a kid growing up (no pun intended) in the late 70's early 80's, I could never understand what the big deal was. The songs I was hearing on the radio didn't do anything for me. Then in 1988 I went to see the Amnesty International sponsored Human Rights Now tour in Philadelphia. (It was the only opportunity to see Peter Gabriel that year.) Sting, Tracy Chapman & Youssou N'Dour were on the bill as well. Bruce headlined. My friends didn't like Bruce either and wanted to leave after Gabriel's set. I convinced them to hang around just so I could see what the big deal was all about. Holy crap! I had never seen such an explosive set in all my life. I became a convert right then and there. I've seen him another 45 times since.

As for the above set, I am sure Bruce would still consider it a bootleg. Other than the live sets being released by Nugs.net, if it ain't on Columbia, it isn't official Springsteen product. And although I haven't heard the set you mentioned, some of those shows are available officially over at the Nugs.net's Live Bruce Springsteen site. I would assume your set is sourced from FM broadcasts. The shows on the official site are from Bruce's multi-track masters. They are a little on the pricey side and are, unfortunately, pressed on CDRs, but the few that I have bought sound excellent. They are also available in hi-res flac. If you're patient, once or twice a year they will run a 25% off sale which is always a good time to grab a few.

I agree with you that the BOOTLEGS made him what he is today!!!! Without those live recordings he'd never have gone from the clubs to arenas to stadiums and become a superstar!!

I saw Bruce the first time at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto during The River tour!! Yes I also saw the Amnesty Tour there as well!! Loved that set as you say it was EXPLOSIVE!!! to say the least!!! Where does he get all that energy from?

I also own the downloads from NUGS, but they actually sound lame in comparison to this boxed set.

Yes it's now legal.....now public domain😀

Was that the 50th Anniversary edition you ripped and CD or Vinyl?

No, nearly all the anniversary editions from the Scorps sound like total shit. I have several, and they might as well be in the trash. Simply smashed the audio quality from the originals. DR is in the 6-9 range for the anniversary stuff. Super harsh....

Anyway, no, it's my original CD from 1984 - Mercury Records. Sounds amazing.

Yup....great album....love The Cult.....Ian is a friend of mine😀

Saw them for the first time as The Southern Death Cult in some dingy club in Toronto called can't remember the name of the club but it was across the street from Maple Leaf Gardens just down the road.

Then saw them again at Massey Hall for the Rain Tour, which was my favorite tour of theirs, then again I guess it was the Electric Tour headlining at the CNE with GnR opening....but am sorry to say that gig GnR blew them away!!!

Not into GnR though but their first album Appetite For Destruction is probably one of the best debut albums of all time, along with Led Zeppelin 1 and Boston's first album.

Speaking of Boston's albums wouldn't it be AWESOME to get their 1st album and Don't Look Back in multi-channel?
