Please post your thoughts and comments on this 2024 reissue of Alanis Morissette's 1995 album "Jagged Little Pill".
The standalone Blu-Ray from WB/Rhino contains a Dolby Atmos mix of the album.

One thing that I've never quite liked about the stereo version of Jagged Little Pill is the perceived 'dense center' on many songs. While there really isn't much compression, that dense center is typical of many stereo recordings, and I don't like the way they upmix to surround. Consequently, I prefer the acoustic version of this stereo album.

However with this Atmos mix, I find that they have done a really nice job spreading the guitars (and everything else) around the sound field thus making the album a more listenable surround sound experience. I'm very pleased with it.

All I can find about the people involved with the Atmos remix is that it is credited to Dolby Studios. I wonder who actually made the mix.

Highly recommended.

I turned off the lights yesterday, sat on my sofa and played this blu-ray in Atmos and I was really stunned. I felt like Alanis was standing in front of me.So crystal clear vocal coming out from the center speaker plus much more details can be heard than on stereo album. Highly recommended.

Great to have this in Atmos! I love listening to these songs again on my 4.1.4 system. You Learn and Ironic sound superb, I totally love it!!! The vocals and guitars sound marvelous on all songs, indeed very revealing. The drums and bass sometimes sound a little less powerful than I would have liked, a little overpowered by the vocals sometimes. I'm not ready to vote yet, but this is certainly a very exciting release!

10. Excellent Atmos mix on one of the biggest albums of the 90s. Considering how bad many of the 90's era multichannel mixes are (STP, Metallica, etc), this is a breath of fresh air.

Well she really sounds Ironic , no really, it's quite good . I like the up volume this disc has. Also many great tunes from this Lass and Band. Double Diamond disc , they state.

Giving it a TEN as this was sooooo.. very deserving of a surround mix, thankfully it has now been done.

Only one little problem though...Right Through You ..stops at 50 secs in , and I can get it restarted ...but maybe I have to grab a second disc . All other tunes play ok.

Still a worthy disc,though.

The discs aren't region locked

I've been listening to this "Atmos" in several different 4.0 configurations. Normally I would listen to it downmixed by the Oppo first but this time I went straight to the ripping process. There is nothing at all in the LFE channel, vocals in the front channels as well as the centre. Not a lot in the sides. So I downmix the sides and the back together. Then the fun begins with the centre. Mix centre fully to the front then try it at full centre then try reducing the level of the vocals in the mix a further 6 dB then try 3dB. I'm still listening as I type this.

My conclusion is that with the vocals (centre) reduced somewhat the background instrumentation moves to the foreground, sounds good albeit a bit odd. With the vocal mixed in at normal level the original intended mix is preserved. Mixing the vocals full centre increases the rear sound level but the vocals still sound upfront albeit not as sharply focused between the front speakers. That is the option that I prefer.

So in conclusion an emphatic ten, based on my quad mixdown!

After two start to finish listen-throughs where I found myself steadily raising the volume control, I voted 9/10. This album was always an angry masterpiece and this new Atmos mix may well now be my new favorite way to enjoy it.



The mix is decidedly immersive in a fashion that serves the music well and Alanis' sometimes dissonant vocals never become harsh during the louder bits. You can certainly play this one loud! However my one niggling criticism is that it feels like its lacking somewhat in the dynamics department. Even after you adjust the volume control upward 5dB from normal to compensate for the relatively low mastering levels, some tracks still sound a little compressed to me.

Lemme be honest with you I would have preferred "the collection" on blu-ray instead of one (her best?) album. I like her but I prefer her hits... So now regarding this release...I don't like the lack of a 5.1 mix. Really please do not let 5.1 die just because of this new Atmos trend! The Atmos track is not bad and as others stated it adds depth to the music... At least! I would say! Is this spacial music or not? But nowadays they tend to rerelease almost anything in Atmos (they discovered the new market and virtually unlimited chances of making again money with old catalogues) to the point that I have a feeling sometimes the remixes are not that much thought or heartfelt. Atmos opens possibilities to play around a lot... And yet in this release I always expect things, I do foresee what is coming next "ok now her voice fades towards the height "... And that happens! . Feels to me like putting music in a software and just let it do the job. I hope it's not the case but that's how I felt. Now I'm probably talking in extrêmes but years ago when a 5.1 mix was something revolutionary I think I used to enjoy more...a 7 for me

There's nothing unique about Atmos in this respect, and it's disrespectful (IMO) to the engineers working on this catalog stuff to say the mixing is being done by 'software'.

And infact I wrote "feels to me" , I am not accusing anyone. I do think this forum works because people can post their real feelings, not advertising anything. That's why I like it indeed. And in any case I do not agree with you. As you mentioned the quadraphonic era... Well at that time there was no computer at all to do the mixes as far as I know... And I'm free to like or dislike any mix because I have my own ears as you have yours... And I respect any opinion. (By the way did you listen to the blu-ray? ) Thank you and good night
