If you want to hear a great-sounding live recording, with plenty of live concert surround "feel", then listen to the multichannel SACD release of Uriah Heep, Magic Night. I must admit that I have been a huge Heep fan for a long time, but I also really hate the sound quality and performances of typical live recordings.

This one was recorded almost exactly one year ago, and it is great! The performance is terrific, and these guys are even older than ME. The sound quality preserves all of the gut-thumping realism of live stadium rock, while still delivering exellent instrumental sounds as well. There are even a few instances of really discrete instument placement, but for the most part the rear channels are reserved for crowd noise and ambience.

I am a confessed discretophile, but I LIKE THIS ONE! I just had to get that off my chest. Mike.
