I am starting to get the feeling that I am not taken seriously around here when I vote a 10.
Well, if anybody doesn't want to take me seriously you will simply have to
get in line behind my: Wife, boss, mom, co-workers, neighbors, ex-shipmates, ex-girlfriends & the car salesman who sold us our Toyota Prius.
I did give Honky Chateau a 10, because I find all the Greg Penny EJ 5.1 mixes to be the best listening experience I've had listening to music. The clarity & depth and soundstage blow me away. It makes EJ's talent more pronounced & intimate at the same time. When I first heard EJ was releasing 5.1 mixes I thought, ok, I like his music, I will buy them. I had no idea it would redefine musical listening for me. I've done electronics all my life & I've done some musical composing & recording. I can not imagine
putting out a better sonic product. Period. Oh yeah, Reginald Dwight is also a very talented musician & singer!
Considering the age of some of the early EJ works, the result is amazing and the 5.1 unearths some hidden gems like Jean Luc Ponty playing(nice credit, FredBlue), that the old 2.0 record simply couldn't showcase.
I am not judging the music here, that is subjective, love EJ or hate him or sit in the middle.... The presentation in 5.1 are legacy recordings presented at the highest level.
Now... lets see that crafty German: IMachine, whittle my comments down to an "8" like he does with YES! :howl
Ok, now the important part. To show I can be objective with 5.1. I personally think that in surround, Jef Beck: Blow By Blow & Frampton Comes alive, both suck the big one.
I give them maybe a 6? Not sure if they are even that good.... Oh, RUSH - 2112 sucked too and I LOVE RUSH!
