It may be deliberately mixed as 4.1, and if so, that's fine. It sounds good as is.

Except the booklet and discs clearly state 5.1, and some clarification would be in order.

It seems most unusual to surround-mix a new recording without a center channel. It's worth questioning.

Burning Shed was kind enough to pass along my inquiry to Neil Wilkes, who authored the disc.

No details, but the following was sent to BShed who forwarded it to me:

"Centre Channel is basically not used.
I can write to him if you like, but it will only be a reassurance there is nothing wrong.”

So at least there's a response.

Still seems an odd choice, esp with 3 drummers stage front.

But I'm content to stop thinking about it. Disc sounds good.
