My panasonic IC CD-4 turntable has 4 connectors Front L&R and Rear L&R but none of the quad receivers I have considered buying have 4 phono inputs (they only have 2, L&R). What is the proper way to connect a quad turntable to a quad receiver/amplifier?

If the turntable has a CD-4 decoder built in, then you hook it up to the receiver's AUX, DISCRETE, or TAPE 4 channel inputs.

Yes. With a demodulator built into the turntable, the signals exit the turntable at a much higher and equalized level than meant for a phono input and they must be fed into line-level inputs as Jeff indicated.

There are no receivers or amplifiers made with four channel phono inputs because all turntables have only two outputs, right and left. Yours has a demodulator built in and thus, has four outputs but those are, as I said above, not phono level outputs.
