Hmm, just the thing to play those DSD 64 and DSD 128 Downloads in your car! Coming this summer from Sony - the RSX-GS9.

The head unit connects to the outboard amplifier via Toslink digital output -
It still is not real lossless. that cannot be achieved with spdif. Great idea though, and what's up with the other systems that "down convert" files to CD quality?? Makes no sense to me.

Sony Electronics has announced availability of their long-awaited RSX-GS9 digital media player ($1,499) in December 2015.

The big news for QQ fans is that the RSX-GS9 will play both Stereo and Multichannel DSD files natively in DSD 64 and DSD 128 resolutions.
Prior to this announcement, it had been widely believed that the RSX-GS9 would be a Stereo only Car Audio unit.

Even better news is that it plays 192/24 FLAC as well. I still can't find a clear description of the outputs, however. The best description I can find is: Pre Out(Front, Rear, Sub); which seems to imply 4.1 support (no center channel.)

Sony is just doing what they do, trying to make standards available only to them.
Kenwood has issued a bunch of players, this one plays flac, has 6 channel output and does not have Sony on the nameplate.

Kenwood DDX672BH In-Dash Receiver $320

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_92948_Kenwood-DDX672BH.html this place has them cheap.

If unions were not destroyed by reaganism perhaps we could all afford a $1500 car unit.

These days SACD and DSD is available to many people, not just Sony and Philips.
Similar to DTS, Dolby, HDMI, DVD Video, BluRay disc, and the many other licensed audio technologies in the market today.
