This is another one I see cheap all over the place, what's the Kevin Coyne Quad mix like fizzy?

Ambient plus in the rear, it is a live concert afterall.Nice clean recording, bizarrely interesting from a topical point of view-notes from the asylum!

my message prior post got cut off, somehow......but I hope those pics are viewable?

Re:that Bob Dylan-Nashville......

one song on that disc is demo quad worthy.........NASHVILLE SKYLINE RAG

Too bad this is not the greatest of Dylan's discs. At least as consistent folk rock tunes in his canon of discs goes.

BTW Please let me know how that Loggin's and Messina -Native Sons sounds, never had it in quad??

Thanks for the tip on the Dylan Nashville disc :)

I've got the Surround Master setup again since my move's delayed so I'll give Native Sons a spin thru it in SQ mode and get back to you asap!

Controversial perhaps; this is listed in a few places as being DY encoded. For a record designed to show off JBL speakers it sure does sound beautiful, super smooth with a lovely sparkle in the high end and a deep richness to the bottom end. 'Fire and Rain' for example sounds really nice, the rim shots and the bass drum sound better than the first pressing stereo vinyl version I own. It's a very nice line up of music as well, surprisingly so as it feels well curated in terms of the order. But is it DY? It sure sounds good on the Surround Master on the QS/Involve setting - but I know that means that the rear phase isn't correct and neither is the side wall imaging. I think maybe just some of the tracks are legit DY; The Pentangle tracks sound the most discrete followed by Mason Williams and Lovecraft. I have found a Dynaco QD-1 that's on it's way to me and I'm going to give that a whirl when it arrives and see what happens. Anyone tried this one with a Quadapter?

No one can state that ANGEL/CAPITOL/JBL disc is DY-4D.

But for what it's worth Carson Taylor was an engineer that used M-S mic'ng throughout his Angel recordings, early on.Mid Side (M-S) recording can provide unique quad like matrixing for both DYNAQUAD and SQ decoding, intentional or not.

I have a multi-page article from an audio magazine that goes into the usage of a variety of mic techniques used on classical recordings, and his discs are cited as early M-S technique on Angel later graduating to QM-69 NUEMANN QUAD mic use.

Grabbing lunch (I know, its supper time nearly here.. pig of a day.. don't ask) and decided to flip this on and record it in while making up a sandwich.. (since I've had to hook everything up again I've wired it differently so I can at least monitor these SQ records in decoded Quad thru the Surround Master, even if I can only patch in the encoded stereo for now from the turntable) well.. I've had to stop what I'm doing and sit bang in the sweet spot, this is SENSATIONAL.

I thought I'd had the surround experience of this already but that CD was just a taste, this record through the Surround Master SQ Vinyl unit is... something else.. there are pans and effects like the first Chase Quad LP but more subtle and not just for show they really elevate the music to another level altogether.. beyond words really.

If anybody ever tries to convince you that LPs can't sound better than CDs, sit them down with this one. I've got no superlatives that can really do it justice. If you haven't heard the Quad of this album yet, the real Quad, do it. The people who mixed and mastered this record back in the day should get some credit if they are still with us (I'll look into who did what later tonight and post back if I get any info) they may even still be in the biz? Congrats to them, this is text book how to do it imho.

This is a beauty that should be reissued on Surround SACD - Now.
