They Only Come Out At Night - Edgar Winter (MFSL Ultradisc Hybrid SACD).

I've the SQ LP of this, great album. I remember the keyboards swirling around the speakers on Frankenstein , sadly not as well via ProLogicII :(. So next years/later this years proposed new Involve decoder with HDMI is a must for me!

Neither this MFSL mastering nor the old Sony CD pan out well in PLII.. there is a DTS conversion of the Quad out there I saw one time but when I downloaded it, it skipped through and wouldn't playback without stuttering. D'oh! :(

The true quad mix of this album is classic. The Q8 and SQ Tate has appeared in the wild as DTS CD, DVD-A and even a DVD-A double feature with Shock Treatment.

Ok, I've given the new Sony HK 80's Hits SACD a very quick flick through..

before I make any major proclamations I want to play it through several times more of course and compare those tracks I have in other masterings (a few I have also on SACD) but..

Right off the bat, the immediate thing that 'Hits' you (pun intended!) is the very good news that you can really crank this disc! No 'Loudness Wars' nonsense here!

I'll add, certain tracks leap out as sounding absolutely terrific.. "Eye Of The Tiger" in particular stands out, it sounds exceptionally good to me.. one or two tracks I feel may be hamstrung by their production (Wham!).. but they still sound good.. anyway, initial impressions are favourable. I'll update here in the next day or two as I get to listen more.

Thanks for giving them a quick spin...my main concerns are overly bright compressed sounds...the song list isn't nearly as good as the Legend Discs but hopefully they sound better...

No problem, you're v.welcome as ever :) I've not tried the Love one yet but hope to tomorrow. The "Hits" disc strikes me as neither overly bright nor compressed, so I think you'll enjoy 'em!

DR posted over @SHF for the CD layer of the Hits disc..
