YouTube 5.1 support

After several months of 5.1 support, I am sorry to report that they have ended it & all new 5.1 uploads are now being converted to stereo. At least older tracks are so far still in 5.1.

If someone has any contact with YouTube support, please ask about & report on this issue. This has made my 5.1 channel mostly useless now.

Out of interest, which multi-channel audio formats are affected. Are they: AC3 (Dolby Digital) [380], EAC3 (Dolby Digital Plus) [328] and AAC (LC [256] and HE [258])?

Have you tried uploading webm muxes encoded with VP9 video and multi-channel 'opus' audio?

I use 5.1 MKV files for my uploads & YouTube has always processed them to m4a surround files but recently started processing them to
stereo m4a files instead as far as I can tell. Can anyone check my latest file at
to see if it plays in true surround with the drums & bass in the front channels with some lead vocals, center channel has lead vocals + some music, rear channels have stereo music + backing vocals with no drums or bass? Also, can this YouTube file be scanned to see what files it really contains?

I found 2 versions of this on YouTube. The one under your MixerRog channel plays back in stereo. The one under your Rog channel plays back in 5.1. I use AppleTV to view these.

EDIT: I see now that the one under MixerRog is labeled as stereo. So it appears my playback still works as intended.

A correction, I thought I had lost my 5.1 playback via YouTube but I had some playback issues & found it to be ok now so will resume
posting more new 5.1 mixes there soon.
