I think that's a certainty, Adam....if there were going to be surround mixes, i think that info would have been given out by now.

You missed it. see post 80:
AUDIO STREAMS
The Pure Audio Blu-ray can hold various audio streams in stereo and surround. The audio streams are allocated to the colour buttons on the remote control, also allowing for a seamless change between them e.g.
Red: 5.1 Surround
Yellow: Stereo
Green: 7.1 Surround
Blue: 9.1 Surround
and they had an Oppo remote in the picture.

I had read it, but I was referring to this first batch of releases. I just hope I / we have a wonderful surprise, from the off, and find that they're in surround ! ( I've ordered Songs In The Key Of LIfe, to see how it compares to my SHM-SACD disc....can't wait !! )

I seriously doubt SITKOL will be in surround but it's one instance where even sanctimonious ol' me would LOVE to be proven wrong..!! :p

what I do know is that Robert Margoulef remixed a lot of Stevie's stuff into quad back in the day,
which never got released at the time, so there is a very faint glimmer of hope.. but it's very faint..!

That just says that "Blu-ray can hold various audio streams" but it doesn't say that it will.

I'm a bit confused now.. I think that Pure Audio stuff with the coloured buttons and surround sound options refers to the 2L releases or something from what I can make out and doesn't directly relate to these upcoming Universal Europe discs..!?!?

SITKOL will most likely be a clone of the SHM-SACD.. but seeing as its quite well-regarded for its sound quality/mastering and I resisted the urge to import it from Japan for "shedloadsofmoney", I've now got the perfect excuse to get it on this BDA, even if it turns out to be just stereo (and believe me I'm not into throwing my money around on stereo now, most of my pennies go on surround only OOP things these days!).

I like that development at all..hopefully there will be more titels coming in hi-rez Mch.

On the web-site is a german written interview with one the studio-boss of these BDA's: http://www.pureaudio-bluray.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Beitrag-Pure-Audio-VDT-1-2013.pdf

Some words from the interview about the chances on the market for this format:

Around one year ago there were 10 BDA on the market now there are 40 BDA's.

100 Mill BD Players are sold worldwide and the labels are highly interested because the products can be sold with a higher price than a CD or a SACD - Prince Range 20-30€.

The customers will not buy a product or format because they are now Home Entertainment Customers because the listening in the living rooms has changed. Watching TV and hearing music are joining now in the living rooms.

It is exciting news. As far as I can tell they are as indicated. 2.0/5.1/7.1 etc.

I have always belived the BD was the way into most peoples homes. (for music) most have a player and lots have at min. a sound bar. I can see even unaware people buying the music if it is marketed correctly. The big downfall of the 1st HR formats was special equipment. Too complicated. I wondered why at firts until I saw people had no clue. Speakers all stacked in the front, or setup to what the wife thinks is "attractive" and fits in the decor of the home. ( I have seen it!)

I agree, there's lots of pluses and not many minuses.. though confusion will still abound, disgruntled folk who were expecting some video.. still I think there's a workaround if UMG just shove some token video material on these things (Lord knows there's the storage capacity on these discs!) to shut these plebs up!! That said Warner tried that with DVDA and well.. nuff said

oh now THESE look VERY interesting...

http://musique.fnac.com/a5911216/David-Bowie-Outside-Blu-ray-audio

http://musique.fnac.com/a5911213/David-Bowie-Next-day-inclus-bonus-Blu-ray-audio

http://musique.fnac.com/a5911224/Aerosmith-Toys-in-the-attic-Blu-ray-audio

Could this be a possible indication of the first SONY Blu-Ray Audio discs...??

Certainly Hi-Res (hopefully surround but I'm not holding my breath!) of blu-ray audio discs of
David Bowie's latest album, his "Outside" album and the Aerosmith Classic would sell like the proverbial hot cake..!!!

WOW..!!!!

DAMMIT.

It seems FNAC may be referring to these as blu-ray audio..

http://www.network54.com/Forum/8980/thread/1365601510/last-1365602452/Japanese+Blu-Spec+Discs

Let the confusion commence....

Looks like it is the blu spec edition, as it already shows in stock and released in March, instead of May, which all these UMG BDA have as release month.

Thanks for al your updates Adam, lets hope the BDA format really takes off.

think that sums it up in the proverbial nutshell.!

you're welcome, Robert :)

I'm trying to get as much pre-hype going for these things, in the absence of any promotion from Universal themselves or more reliable pre-orders or information from the likes of Amazon, etc.
