Blue Note Records, one of the best known jazz labels revealed this week on their web discussion forum that they plan to release 5 SACD discs later this year. The formal announcement of the 5 SACD titles will be made shortly.

Blue Train on SACD
==============
Jazz fans will be pleased to hear that one of the initial 5 SACDs will be "Blue Train" by John Coltrane. Blue Train is widely regarded as a jazz classic and features 5 tracks played by Coltrane and a backing group that consists of pianist Kenny Drew, bass player Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones on drums, Lee Morgan on trumpet and Curtis Fuller on trombone.

Black Dahlia to be Released in Multichannel SACD
====================================
Another one of the initial releases will be "Black Dahlia" by Bob Belden. Belden is not only a well known Jazz artist but he is also very active in the world of SACD. Belden has produced several of Columbia's Jazz SACD reissues by Miles Davis as well as the new Philip Bailey album entitled "Soul on Jazz" on the Heads Up label. Like the Bailey album, Black Dahlia was originally recorded in Sony's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) system and will be released by Blue Note as a 5.1 Multichannel SACD.

Next Multichannel SACD Coming from Heads Up
===================================
Speaking of Telarc's Heads Up Jazz label, they are continuing their Multichannel SACD releases. Earlier this week, Heads Up President Dave Love announced that their next SACD release will be "Love's Silhouette" by Pieces of a Dream. Ace Telarc Engineer Michael Bishop will be going into the studio in August to handle the preparation of the album for release on Multichannel SACD.

Love's Silhouette will be the third Multichannel SACD on the Heads Up label when it is released later this year. The prior SACDs from Heads Up are the Philip Bailey "Soul on Jazz" (Heads Up SACD-69068 ) and Spyro Gyra's "In Modern Times" (Heads Up SACD-69061).
