What's the point of the 1992 tracks when the whole setlist for that tour was on The Way We Walk (longs and shorts)

Better to have had all 3 tracks from the Paris studios, more of Knebworth/The Lyceum or even more with Ray Wilson. And still no live version of Eleventh Earl of Mar?

Soon as I saw the words curated by Tony Banks I knew they would f it up.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I'm a huge fan of all eras of the band so I will certainly be picking this up. However, their BBC sessions have been very well documented over the years. Very high quality versions have circulated among fans for years. There is little to nothing here that will be new to anyone who has collected live Genesis. The band has a significant tape vault of concerts from all eras. I am glad that they are doing an archival release but I would have much preferred that they dig into the vault than rehash the BBC sessions.

Having said that there are some exceptional performances here. The 1980 show is one of my all-time favorite bootlegs by any band.

Anything in this likely to be matrix encoded?
Only possibility are the 1978 Knebworth Festival tracks (I was there, and I taped to R-to-R the BBC Matrix H broadcast a week or so later). However, there may have been a Stereo & Quad mix put to tape as when it was re-broadcast (years later as I recorded it to DAT) I believe it was billed as only stereo. I haven't played the DAT through my SM2 though, I did with the R-to-R recording and in Involve mode it decodes pretty well - not an exciting mix though.

Thank you for posting the Amazon UK Link

£48 for 5 CD's seems fair, I hope they are 24bit

1970-1992 covering a long time

In 1992 was it another drummer?

CDs are always 16bit - never 24bit
No, most CD's are 24bit upgraded Good on Japan Prints the 24bit on the outside

Example of this Great 1974 CD sounding Fantastic in 24bit

I was referring to the standard red book CD format which are always 16bit - and the most common - I guess SHM-CD is something else entirely.
SHM-CD is red book CD, you can play them on regular, red book, CD players. SHM stands for Super Hard Material, IIRC. So, it’s just regular 16 bits CD tracks on a better physical substrate.

Look up HDCD for a way to encode better resolution in regular CD tracks compatible with regular CD players, but needing special decoders for the full resolution.

OK - I obviously am not knowledgable about any of this - but my question is are any ACTUAL CD formats 24bit?

The question should be: are there any CD players that can play anything other than 16 bits / 44.1 kHz tracks?!

I haven’t read the red book, but I don’t think there is anything in it that says CD tracks can have a different format.

(Remember the audio CD was invented in the seventies, before the personal computer, before easy access to powerful computing! In fact the odd 44100 Hz sampling rate is because video tape was used for storing the digital audio tracks during development of the decoding hardware)

Exactly - I just am not understanding the previous posts talking about 24bit CDs....

I think the confusion arises as a lot of CDs say 24-bit remastered, but the Redbook format is 16-bit only.

Unless, its HDCD encoded, which becomes 20-bit and hides the encoded bits in the CD Graphics sectors I believe (I only have one Graphics capable disc, Lou Reed's "New York" where it was used for 'sing-along' lyrics).
