I have finally decided to take the plunge and buy one of these receivers, this one on ebay had no takers -

how much should one pay for one is good cosmetic shape but has mechanical problems vs one thats mint?

I was taking a look at the marantz 4400's for fun and they seem cheap as well, they seem to be trading for under $500.00 (other then the $2,500 and $1,800 ones that have been on ebay for months now)

thanks for your help

Not a bad price at this time, but it will probably go for more. If you get one, it would be best to have it gone over by a tech to take care of the issues described, and to have some restoration done. Plan on spending at least $500 for repairs, possibly much more depending on what you want done. I just got a QRX-6001, that plays great in all formats, but it does have a few minor issues and I'm going to send it off for a complete restoration in the next couple of weeks as I suspect several of the capacitors may be going bad (sometimes the right channel seems a bit weak). If I let it fail, the repairs will cost much, much more.

Just curious. Does anyone know what year Sansui went out of business? Also, what year did Kenwood leave the Home Audio business? Thanks.

If you were the winner, at $350 plus shipping, then you got a pretty good deal. I would agree with the seller that the bad left channel is probably a bad solder joint.

mint - or - new in box - - -makes no difference - i prefer them "broken" but cosmetically perfect - anything older than 25 years old is going to need to be rebuilt - so why buy mint? just buy - "looks perfect but...." - that way when you get it back from your tech - it is perfect - but there wasnt a sansui qrx9001 that came off the assembly line "perfect" - they had problems - so 35 years later...the problems are even worse - buy one broken and get it rebuilt - or do what has already been suggested - get a qrx 6001 or 7001 and get it rebuilt - not as pretty - but rock solid performance and the complete rebuild is less than the 9001 - - you can get preamp outputs if you want more power - try it - you'll like it -

this was a good deal - http://cgi.ebay.com/sansui-qrx-9001...pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item2eb0168223

gotta be fast

this was a good deal - but does not have toroidal power - dont forget.

ask this seller to relist - maybe 115 dollars - thats a good deal -

this is a good deal price-wise - but cosmetically - ? - i dunno -

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Sansui-...14193?pt=Receivers_Tuners&hash=item20b3e700f1

this would be a perfect candidate for rebuilding - its all there - there are some problems with performance - and priced right -

keep a saved search for "qrx" in title and description in electronics on ebay - be vigilant - check daily - the best qrx-6001 i have was sold as a "sunsui" - fifty dollars.

perfect, thanks again for all the help, I will look for a broken one then, I think I draw the line at the buttons, I dont know how hard it would be to find all the little knobs, to fit the sansui if its missing any

at least with the wooden case you can get it rebuilt or replaced (most of the qrx's use the same wooden case if I am not mistaken anyway)
