MOD Note: Title of thread has changed to reflect all musicians now.

This is it for me. I absolutely do not plan to post new threads for every musician who dies from the virus; too, too depressing. I saw Roney play a set of straight ahead jazz years ago at Birdland in NYC. I also have an AIX DVD-A/V of him in surround. May he RIP.

Tom Rush, BTW, is recuperating at home from COVID-19.

If it’s okay, I’ve changed the title of thread to include all musicians. Thanks.

Dammit. Not a musician, exactly, but a huge figure in the music world:

Tom Waits has written a tribute to Willner. (The article below, which is full of fabulous Waitsian quotes, also mentions tributes by Nick Cave and Elvis Costello.)

Also a new interview with Van Dyke Parks discussing Willner (and John Prine). Don't worry: Van Dyke is okay!

Another just a few days ago - keyboardist Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers. He had been in hospital for some heart issues, ended up with the virus too and passed away May 3rd.

I got into the band at the beginning. They got tagged as a "punk" band despite them being older and actually quite accomplished musicians. Dave got the "Punky version of The Doors" tossed at him a lot in the early days though he was much more into Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman - I think the Doors tag had more to do with the gear he used at the time as when he obtained better bigger synths his sound and approach changed a lot.

I love what he did on this piece, the title track from "The Raven" album....great stuff on that Oberheim 8-voice!
