First listen of the BD...recording wants, or should I say demands to be cranked up...And then, it's just freakin' spectacular. Some of the tracks are easily demonstration quality for my system...Not that it matters but I can smell the box as I sit in the sweet spot. Kinda like when the scent of a Xmas tree fills the room...The whole package smells of quality. (yea, over priced, I agree) Back to our program for another listen...:smokin

Oh my, Animals in 5.1 would give me a heart attack @:

Speaking of quality there's been an amazing attention to small details, like the Pink Floyd in braille on the upper left side of the boxset cover that can only be seen when looking at the box from a certain angle. I realised today and still wondering who decided to spend a single euro on that.
Another thing that surprised me is that, from all the cover variations that appear in the boxset, none of them correspond with the original CD cover (the one with the lights between the sculptures mouths)

I bought this dvd release for my brother's birthday and it did arrive today. I'm quite underwhelmed by the packaging (plain cardboard sleeve) and a bit upset that it arrived bent at the corners....anyone else have this issue. I didn't open it, since it is a gift, but I do hope there are no issues inside....should I complain?

I hope its in a plain envelope and not emblazoned with "PINK FLOYD" - I'd hate someone in the delivery chain to walk off with mine.

Yep, a plain bubble-wrap envelope. Anyway, gonna keep it...the important thing is the content and that it plays....I'm much more particular than he is about condition of cases and such ;)

Nice catch! I guess I was too overwhelmed by the audio to pay any attention to what's inside the box.

Is the stereo mix 24/48 then?
See for yourself. And the sleeve fits quite nicely in a super jewel plus case with slight trimming to the right side (not losing any printing off the back).

Ugh, talk about cheapening out on this DVD release. Jewel Cases cost pennies to produce so no excuses if you ask me. I don't like that artwork either.

Yes, the packaging was cheesy, I would not have guessed what was in there until it dawned on me. Glad to see it is a good fit for a case. The audio mix is great though, Guthrie- No, Jackson- Si!

It actually would have helped to have those bits in the center channel (I know, I can't believe I am saying that). It almost seems like they forgot to assign a mix bus with those parts to the center mix output.
It's all a matter of mixing philosophy. Andy Jackson has stated that he doesn't believe in using the center channel for multi-channel mixing for music. It's more of a movie/cinema thing. Kudos to him for "getting it"!!!

The Dynamic Range readings for the BDA look good. Should be the same for the DVD too:

I have only got the DVD for this one, and it sounds pretty damn fine. Has anyone had a chance yet to compare the DVD and the BDA versions, to see if the BDA offers a major sound improvement or not?

It's the same mix so Dynamic Range should be the same. (I have down-mixed 96Hz lossless to mp3 320kbps on other discs and DR is the same). I doubt many could tell the difference, although the BDA is lossless.

That's exactly what I'm going to do with mine - after I smooth out the damn card sleeve. It was bent all to sh** when I got it two days ago. It definitely pissed me off when I opened the envelope and saw that.

I think it shows that they were originally thinking of putting it in the boxed set, until some genius decided otherwise. It should've been put in the boxed set, and then have a stand-alone edition in the Super Jewel Box.

Either that or it was a cheap afterthought...

I plan to replace the disc in my stereo CD with the DVD and store it in my surround shelf like I did with DSOTHM and WYWH from the Immersion sets, so they'll have proper spines showing on the shelf.

I won't need to see the new credits to know Andy Jackson did the surround mix. :)

Here's a great cover for those with the blu-ray. Much nicer than the cardboard sleeve:

Someone at blu-ray.com created this artwork which is available for download (print yourself). Blu-ray cases can be grabbed for about 50c.

I wonder if someone has made one for a DVD-A style case?
