You guys (and girls) have been so amazing with helping me through various stuff on this board. I'd now like an opinion on what to do with this quad stuff.

I have the following equipment that I was thinking of selling on eBay and I was wondering if you think I should sell them separately or make a "package" of sorts for Quadradiscs - kind of a one stop shop for those thinking of diving into this kind of thing.

1) JVC 4DD-5 demodulator that's been completely recapped. (I bought this new-old-stock in January but it wouldn't turn on.)
2) JVC D-20x cartridge (also bought new-old-stock in January and maybe played about 20 records on it.)
3) A brand new JVC 4DT-20x replacement stylus for the above cartridge.
4) JVC CD-4 adjustment record.
5) and, of course, the cables for the demodulator

Together, including the recapping, it all cost me $740. I don't think I'll recoup my money because of the repairs, but I really don't need this anymore since getting my new receiver with built in CD-4 that's working perfectly with my old Shure cartridge.

I thought maybe a complete Quadradisc package might be the way to go, but maybe selling the stuff more individually might be better. Also, is there a good "sale" website for stuff that's not eBay? I've sold stuff on eBay, but never anything like this.

Your thoughts? Thanks!

Individually might get you the best sale prices, but I totally endorse a bundled sale like that - a great way to get in to the format.

I bought those exact items, NOS, individually from a Canadian seller clearing out remaining inventory from a hi-fi shop, for $369 (CAD) back in 2012. There is another Canadian seller on Ebay right now (not the same ID, but you never know) selling the demodulator alone, NOS, for $200 (CAD) / $156 (USD), as a frame of reference.

Mine came from Canada, too. Odd. My NOS was, indeed, brand new, but it wouldn't power on and needed repairs.

The photo's I'm seeing from the current seller really remind me of my seller, but the I.D.s not the same. If I remember correctly, they had a sizeable inventory of 4DD-5's, so they may still a few stragglers left.

Last time I used mine, I remember the CD-4 radar coming on as soon as I powered it on. That was a new development, but it still demodulated fine. Might have been poor connections, or a sign of what's to come.

My thought would be that if nobody here made you an offer that interested you would be to offer it on AudioMart. They only offer audio gear and they don't charge the close to 20% that ebay extracts from you. They have differen't sites for different countries but your ad can appear on all of them and for several months. AudioMart does not charge anything.
https://www.usaudiomart.com/In some cases the per centage that ebay extracts could be worth it for the size of market that sees stuff.
Like the decision to sell it as a package or individual auctions it is hard to guess which is the optimum approach. The nice thing about the package is one auction and one ship and you really could possibly do well because you are offering someone who just decided to "get into it" a sort of turn key package.

I didn't realise that flea bay charged that much. I haven't sold anything there, just bought since about 2000. I've run across items on AudioMart (usually already sold) , while doing internet searches. AudioMart looks like an interesting site, but a lot of high priced equipment, I'm more of a bargain hunter.

Anything Quad I would offer up here first, to this fantastic group of Surround/Quad enthusiasts.

I doesn't hurt to retain some spare equipment as well, one never knows when something that you are using is going to fail.

I still have my Sansui 7001 that I can't seem to part with. I should, but my gut says "don't." So I think it would be a good idea to part with the separate demodulator and stylus, making a complete Quadradisc package for someone. I'll probably lose money on it, but it's one less thing in the closet.

I took up your suggestion and listed on AudioMart. I'll also look for where to post it on here. (I inflated the price on AudioMart. I mean, why not, right? You never know. I'd sell it on here much less expensive because, honestly, everyone has been so helpful and nice as I get back into the quadraphonic thing and start up my first more modern surround sound, too.)

It is true that there is a great deal of way overpriced audiophool stuff on AudioMart, but like ebay and many other places you can find deals. And since it is "searchable" and you can get notifications for things you are looking for you could conceivably find some bargains when they become available.

Fleeb usually charges 11 or 12 percent and Paypal nicks you for another four iirc. I think they have gotten a bit big for their britches and prefer to sell elsewhere when I can. They are very anti seller these days because lots of big sellers are just selling new stuff. They don't seem to be able to distinguish between new bulk sellers and sellers of interesting vintage specialist items.
