I got this from the JVC website: www.jvc.com/support/index.jsp

"1. Unplug he unit from the AC source.
2.while pressing both the "stop" and "play" keys together plu the AC cord back into the outlet.
3.Continue pressing the keys until "TEST JVC" appears on the flourescent display.
4. Press the "F.SKIP" key followed by the "Pause" key.
5. confirm that the DVD AUDIO blue indicator lights up after several seconds.
6. Unplus power cord from AC source."

In my experience sometimes you have to try this several times, and be patient, but the unit has always reset for me.

Thanks for the post on this !

What would prompt you to do this reset, what condition does it fix , any examples .

P.S. did you ever try playing a cdr/w, it will play some.
One I know of is Imation, and also H.P. cdr/w's, Thou it won't play any cdrs.

When I got the first Grateful Dead album I had popping noises on my rear surrounds throughout the disc. I then noticed it on other albums I never had problems with. I thought it was the receiver (I have an Onkyo), had it checked out at Circuit City, and they had be bring in the JVC 723 and they did the reset procedure.
I have done it a couple of times since. It works.
