I came across two Vocalion Jazz SACD titles at HRAudio. They list them both as multichannel but I cannot verify that.

The two titles are http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=1067&showall=1 and http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=774.

I did order the latter title and will report on the performance/SQ once I receive it.

Some additional info from the Dutton Vocalion website: http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CDSA6815 and http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CDSA4801.

No mention of multichannel but I'm always looking for hi res jazz recordings.

Addenda: A copy of the email I sent today to Dutton Vocalion: "I am one of 10,000 members of a US based Quadraphonic website called QuadraphonicQuad forum and we are VERY excited about your newly announced listing of 6 QUAD titles from the RCA catalogue and wonder if you would take suggestions for further releases in the SACD QUAD format. We invite you to visit our website and introduce yourselves and would like VERY much to chat with you. Many thanks in advance."

I would strongly urge other interested parties to do the same! Can't hurt. http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/contact.php

Great idea to send an email about future releases...I'm sending one NOW(y)

Oi, another quad SACD series! Gonna have to do careful auditioning of these and pay attention to polls and reviews. We're being treated to so much new MC that I (like many others probably) just can't afford them all anymore.

What you have to consider EB, is that they're ALL two~fers (2 complete QUAD albums on 1 SACD). I ordered 4 from AmazonUK and with s/h, it came out to $10 per album! Where else can you get that kind of bargain in this day and age?

And yet the pundits keep telling us that physical discs are doomed...they are on their last legs...haha...yeah right...I say to those critics...bite me! Take that streaming/download hocus pocus and shove it:couch

We will continue to see SACDs and DSD Downloads in the year ahead. It's not an either or choice from what I am seeing.

Hi. All

..More so now than ever I have the utmost respect for all the guys here and elsewhere who make and have made - and have most graciously opted to share with others - so many of the needledrops, conversions, decodes and transfers that were my first introduction to a number of masterings and mixes unique to the legacy formats like matrix (SQ/QS, etc..) LP and the discrete Q8, CD-4 and Quad Reel sources...

..to those Quadraphonic preservation heroes I take my hat off and salute them all - THANK YOU TO ALL THE INCREDIBLE HARD-WORKING CURATING QUADRANISTAS THROUGHOUT HISTORY.. your work may well have resulted in the only surviving copies of certain Quad mixes from the past - good job..!!!!

I second this sentiment all to pieces! The quad preservation movement has been responsible for hours of listening joy in my sweet spot, and I am so grateful for the efforts of the conversionists! There are many folks around these parts who make such conversions, and they deserve our gratitude.

THANK YOU!

If you, like me, do not have the technical acumen to contribute conversions, you can still help. I have contributed several quad titles via loan from my collection to be converted. Those with rare titles on LP/Reel/Q8 may consider posting availability, so another member can make the conversion to a digital format for archival preservation.

Just a thought.

Good point well made, Ralphie! :upthumb Which 4 did you get?

The two Henry Mancinis, the Floyd Cramer (Young & The Restless/Country Hits) and the Hugo Montenegro SACDs.....and the Upswing mch SACD http://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=774

BTW, Adam, I received a response today from Oliver Lomax @ Dutton Vocalion regarding my very recent email to them.

His response: Many thanks for your e~mail and interest in our new SACD quadraphonic releases. We're very happy to have been able to reissue these titles and we hope to do more quadraphonic reissues in the future. We're very grateful too for the positive responses from the members of the Quadforum message board. Kind regards, Oliver.

VERY encouraging indeed.

As you'll probably be receiving those Vocalion Quad SACDs before I do in the States, Adam, we all expect a FULL report.

I'm curious about Floyd Cramer (musically..!) are the Quad mixes good? I've never heard them

Great job!! Fantastic response you elicited from Oliver Lomax
(Cool name..! sounds like a secret agent/spy..! "Oliver Lomax : 004 - licensed to re-issue old Quads...".. :D ) at Vocalion..!! (y) (y)

I will of course report here in full if I should receive them anytime soon, although LizardKing in New Zealand will probably receive them first, he always does..!!

Yeah, Adam, I'm NOT familiar with the Floyd Cramer QUADs, as well, but heck, for $20 for a two~fer, who could resist.

You should likewise email Oliver Lomax @ Dutton Vocalion and chime in on Quads newest 'champions.' Would LOVE the two CHASE albums on one QUAD two~fer......Imagine? http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/contact.php

Tell 'em Ralphie sent ya! New York's QUAD KING!

I need a bit of guidance here. For someone who has never heard any of these albums before (although I am passingly familiar with the artists themselves), which of these should I pick up to start with? I know, that's a really broad question. I'm normally a rock guy, but I like me some jazz/classical/ambient as well.

Well for me the Hugo Montenegro's a no-brainer (there is already the most stunning conversion, AoQ I think?) as the mix is great and musically my cuppa tea.. the Mancini's less engaging mix-wise and musically on a personal level but I wanted to support this new enterprise with a couple of purchases and see how they work out.. and then probably get "the lot" in the end, as usual..!

Will tell 'em Ralph sent me..! Also, I can tell you that the two Chase Quads (mixed by two entirely different mixing engineers back in the day afaik, yet both hugely entertaining mixes that engage the senses throughout) even decode very well through the Surround Master they are such active mixes with so much going on.. so to hear them discrete from the Quad master tapes must be quite the thrill.. fingers crossed some label somewhere gets them both out on Surround SACD soon..!!!

Let the review process BEGIN, Adam.

Imagine 12 newly minted QUAD titles from the RCA catalogue on 6 SACDs......and NO fanfare!

Who'd a thought? :woopie

And thanx for the pics, AB. Time to get your 'Easy Listening' Mojo working!:teleport:
