Quad heads - I feel your pain....
I can't believe how tedious it is recording using ANALOG connections between by SA-CD player and audio interface. I wish I had enough time on my hands to get all of my SA-CDs on my computer into a friendly format, but at the rate I'm going, it is going to take me until June. The worst part…I have a very small SA-CD / DVD-A collection!
So here was my recording chain….
Marantz SA8260 -> Custom RCA to ¼ cables (Switchcraft Connectors and Gepco wire ) -> RME Multiface -> Vegas 6.0 @ 24bit / 48k
So the process…..
Record the whole album, trim the silence from the start and end of the album…..through markers in the appropriate locations to separate the tracks…..render each track to 6 mono wav files…..encode to WMA lossless using Windows Media Encoder…..use a tag editor to input the correct track info….go to Amazon and get a pic of the album cover.
This whole process takes a good 2 hours……plus I don’t even have to switch sides of a record.
It is such a pain, that when I recorded DSOTM, I didn’t even bother to chop it up into separate tracks. So I really have to tip my hat to you guys with large quad on vinyl collections that you are converting to digital. I’m guessing that you probably find the recording /listening therapeutic.
(I find making audio cables therapeutic…. it’s nice to shut off the brain every once in a while.)@:
