I have the impression that this is Dutton/Vocalion's way of wishing us a Merry Christmas in November. :D

Wow! I'm shocked and pleasantly surprised. I know there's a bunch I'll be getting.

If anyone from the company is seeing this thread, Thank you!

Yep, that Tower of Power album may end up in their best sellers list.

I've got two words for you regarding this release: Lenny Pickett.

He is one of my top five sax players on the planet. If you've listened to David Bowie's Let's Dance, you've heard his astounding work and his solos in Let's Dance and Modern Love and truly astonishing. In the 80's, I used to tune in to NBC on Saturday nights to catch the end credits of Saturday Night Live just to hear his crazy solo in the closing credits music. He was on pretty much in everything that Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of Chic were involved with as a group or producers for other artists. The man is a legend and I'm sure this album will deliver. :)

Bloody hell.. this is overwhelmingly wonderful..!! I've been trying to track down this double SQ LP set (Japanese or domestic U.S. I'm not fussed!) for months on end without success.. another guaranteed Dutton Vocalion Quad SACD purchase.. Amazing!! :upthumb

the Tower of Power Quad mix has it's detractors (some dislike it for being too 4-corner discrete! admittedly it plonks the drums in rear right and the bass in rear left.. but I LOVE it since it showcases the rhythm section in a way the Stereo doesn't.. and there are some tasty bass licks going on so why not show them
off!?

"make someone happy.." the song goes.. well by redoing this fab Quad on Surround SACD Dutton Vocalion have made someone very happy.. ME..!! :wave :woopie

I've just sent an e-mail thanking them for continuing with these Quad SACD releases. I think it's a good thing to let them know that many here are happy with these upcoming titles.

Fab!

The Stevie Wonder Quad is particularly good! :music

Well, damn. I don't know these particular albums, but I really did enjoy the Montenegro I bought from them last year. So, I'll be watching this thread for guidance. Any thoughts about the Fiedler?

I did this one from CD4 a while back.

How the hell are they doing these for under $12 a piece? Not complaining... Just curious.

I'm quite surprised and excited to see The Main Ingredient there. I have their version of Just Don't Want To Be Lonely on seven inch. Whilst I have no need for somebody else's bottom (or mine for that matter) on an album sleeve, I'm keen to get this album - what a surprise that 1) It exists (I didn't know) and 2) It's being released on SACD. Result! (Bottom aside.)

Dave,

I want to say "Thank you" for having contacted Mr. Dutton and shared with him your thoughts on possible titles to release. Based on what we've seen this morning, we're in for quite a few treats.

I actually like his "stealth" delivery. Once a year, BANG, a bunch of Quad SACDs. No endless teasing, no build ups. No frills, slipcases, limited edition number stickers. Here's what we have for you this years gents. Thank you very much!

I'll be getting most of these and I'm still surprised we're getting Tower of Power and The Main Ingredient. Those two are pretty left field for me. Excellent choices.

As for reaction from the SH.tv front, I've started threads on most of these releases and they've gotten very little action. As these may not cater to Rock fans, I gather people don't give them a second thought. Their loss.

Many thanks, Simon for listing links to ALL the upcoming D~V QUAD releases. I'm IN for ALL of them. I still can't get over how fantastic all the previous ones sound on my system and as you surmised....NO fanfare......NO secrecy....just an upcoming batch of delightful 'chestnuts' from the QUAD era at an INCREDIBLY NICE price.:banana::banana::banana:

As Adam (fredblue) might surmise: It would truly be a BLUE [:chill ] Christmas without them!:sun

to Simon A for getting the info and for Dutton Vocalion for getting these out and going beyond the RCA wall and delving into the Columbia and other frontiers. If AF can't get the backing to go deep, it's great that these guys can and they are going to be our heroes if they keep this up.

The Tower of Power, a very late Columbia release, is the gem of the lot, although the others have great quad cred and were considered prime demo material, even if they were classified as "MOR" back in their time.

Let's show our support and get behind these titles. I am not saying buy them all even if you don't think you'll listen to them, but if they are remotely interesting to you, for $12 it won't kill you to try them out.

Great job and a huge "Cheers" to the folks at Dutton Vocalion. I'm in for most of these no question!

Thanks for the kind words Jon, but it was fellow QQ member bming who posted about the Ray Conniff this morning. That got me to go on the Vocalion's web site and then lose my mind. Of course, I just had to share the fabulous news with everyone. :)

They're a great company and they've been releasing high quality reissues for years now.

Well, then a huge tip-of-the-cap to our old friend Brian (bming) as well.

I just ordered 4 titles and may go for more in a second round! :music
