Just for fun, I downloaded that version. For whatever reason, it didn't seem to handle my Auro-3D titles. It simply played them in normal 5.1 (no height speakers) and the MPC-HC version played them perfectly.
Out of interest....

Which version of MPC-BE did you try? I'm currently using 1.6.11 which is available from here: https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=165890

And just so you know. The newest builds of MPC-HC can be found here: https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209

Cheers

I don't see a need to enable wasapi to use VLC. I have never had to on multiple pc's and AVR's. Dead end. There's something else going on.
you only absolutely need WASAPI or ASIO) if you absolutely need bit-perfect output.

You absolutely need bit-perfect output for any audio file that is Dolby or DTS encoded (typically, *.ac3 and *dts, or variants on those). Those must stay bit-perfect until they reach the decoder (in the AVR)

If those files have already been decoded to PCM in your laptop/source, then you don't need wasapi/bit-perfect output.

But that would then remove the Atmos codec would it not?

I use Linux here but where are you setting wasapi.
In the individual application like VLC or Kodi?
Or in some system wide setting?

Just so you know..... There's also a version of 'media player classic' called MPC-BE :}
This is true; however, the current version of MPC-HC is actually more advanced. The original developers stopped development, but it's been picked up by the community, so naturally it pretty much has everything now :)

Holy Cow! I downloaded this MPC-HC media player, and right out of the gate, it's playing all my files perfectly. Even the 4 titles that have been giving me fits on VLC. Additionally, it is handling my Auro-3D ripped titles and activates Auro-3D on my AVR.

Mind blown.
Glad it works! If you want to dig into it a bit more, it also has some really great options for upscaling video and implementing HDR options for video that supports it.

No, the latest version is at the Github link I attached: https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases (notice, last version yesterday, Feb 25 2024, vs the other source, January 2018). The original developer stopped working on it years ago, but it's been picked up by others and kept up to date and relevant.

Yes the new versions of MPC-HE are being developed by people who predominately frequent the Doom9 forums....

The question remains...why problems with VLC playback? that's strange. Anyway sort of beating a dead horse here, he has a solution that works for him, all that counts in the end. I've fought with Windows sound and sound apps for years...but I win in the end. Stubborn, I guess.

First of all, apologies if this post seems misplaced. I’m kinda new and don’t know how to use the forums correctly.

Hi team, I’m wondering if you can help me troubleshoot something. I play all my dvds and blu rays through a PS5. Never had a problem until now.

I recently ordered a copy of The Doors Singles (Quadio version) from Germany. And it doesn’t work in the PS. I just get a black screen and controls don’t work.

I know it’s not a faulty disc because it works in my computer. Is this a problem with the PS codec? I can’t find any answers online.

For context, I also have the PS connected to an Onkyo NR5100.

What region code is the disc? And will the PS3 accept it? Does the PS3/0nkyo play other quad albums with true 4.0 tracks?

From what I can tell…the region is not stated. Yes, other blu rays work.
