Why MPEG-D? It's based around pretty old 'MPEG Surround' concepts that have been superseded, more recently by MPEG-H.

That being said, what's your primary interest... Is it basic 'surround' or 'spatial' audio?

If it's basic 'surround' audio, then it's possible to create 'lossy' 5.1 audio encodes using: AAC (LC or HE), Dolby Digital (AC-3), Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC-3), DTS (DCA), Opus, Vorbis and a few others. It's also possible to create 'lossless' 5.1 audio encodes using: APE, FLAC and good old PCM. All using free-ware tools...

Cheers

Thanks for your reply, evrybody can contact MPEG-H creators ( german institute ) to get freely a set of tools to create MPEG-H content from Dolby Atmos for example.

works fine with Windows and MacOS.

I have checked MPEG-H performances and possibilities. It can not be used for a 5.1 surround experience into a 96 kbit/s channel (a DAB channel typical bitrate ). It needs more bandwith.

So MPEG-D surround 5.1 AAC-HE is my only option. Do you know any MPEG-D Surround encoder for AAC-HE 5.1 surround with 96 kbit/s bandwith performance ?This is for a DAB radio experience in France.

I dont’ need an objects 3D audio like Dolby atmos or MPEG-H but just a standard 5.1 channels.

The encoder can be free or paid, thanks by advance for your help and informations,

Pierre
