Well, what works for smoke detector batteries...

I just replaced an expired date smoke detector with a model with a lithium battery that never needs replacing.
You replace the whole unit at end of life.

So the irony will be when the battery explodes and burns my house down. 🎆🔥

I use easily replaceable universal remotes whenever possible.
A few Panasonic batteries leaked, I've been using RAYOVAC batteries (Eveready bought the company a few years ago) for many years, I check the batteries in the remotes every few months due to the Panasonic problem, never had a problem with RAYOVAC batteries (and they're usually a little cheaper than the other major brands).

I use lots of duracell rechargeable and never had an issue with any of them and I use 100's of them during Christmas for lights, etc
