Guano Apes "Don`t give me names" is also released as DVD with the same 5.1-Mix from the SACD-Version (+ live and video clips), but only in AC3. I don`t own it, but i saw pictures of the back cover on Ebay and it`s also written (about the new 5.1-Mix from Ronald Prent) in the product description. Try this link for example: http://www.ebay.de/itm/191596788769?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
A bargain if you get it for that price :), but I prefer the SACD :51banana:

There's a new Auro-3D mix (9.1) by Ronald Prent coming (soon): Ferry Corsten - Blueprint. Here's an interview with both the artist and the surround wizard.
The mix is out on December 10th on BD-A as a part of a box set, pre-orders here. Available formats: 2.0 LPCM 24/96, 5.1 DTS-HD MA 24/96 and 9.1 AURO-3D 24/96.

I have just listened to Ferry Corsten's Blueprint.
Got the box set for a reasonable price too!!

My first impressions are:
Bit front centric
Not so keen on the chat before each track.
I realise he is telling the story of the album.
I have my rears raised and good job I do, because it brings to life this Auro3D release.

I have placed this short revue in this thread, as I felt the thread deserved to be revisited by those who might be interested in the subject matter and the surround releases.

I would give this release a 7.5, therefore rounding it up to an 8.
Not the strongest surround mix but not the worst either.

This one:

bring it on!! if more talented enginers the likes of Wilson, Scheiner, Clearmountain, Prent etc (won't name them all but we all know who they are by now) do more Atmos music mixes, i'll throw all extraneous schtuff out of my room to make space for an Atmos system, even if i have to shoehorn it all in! 👍

Didn't know where to put this info, not feeling like starting a new thread for now...

Prent is the man! Not a fan of Darcy I am afraid. All her masterings on blu rays are DR of 10 or 11. Not Good enough IMO.

New interview with Mr. Prent, conducted by yours truly:
Congratulations, Jonathan! Great interview. Props to "absolute immersive audio freak" Joey DeMaio. (What a studio!) Love what Prent says about center channel vocals. And now, apparently, I need to track down Guano Apes.

New interview with Mr. Prent, conducted by yours truly:
Reading through this, I was giddy at everything Mr. Prent had to say and makes me really appreciate the work he's done, as someone that "gets" immersive (surround) music!

Here's one part you asked about that reaffirms a hunch I have on Atmos type fold downs.
-------------------------------
What if the client wants a standard 5.1 mix? Do you simply fold-down from the 13.1?

Prent - If there’s time, I prefer to do a separate mix in 5.1 on the console. It just sounds better and more coherent, because folding-down or down-mixing can often have unforeseen consequences. Sometimes it works well, but other times there can be issues where instruments become too loud or disappear entirely.
-------------------------------

You also asked this about center vocals which I found very interesting. And can you say what title/song(s) that technique is used on?
--------------------------------------
I’ve even heard examples where the harmony vocal is placed in the phantom center and the lead vocal is in the center speaker. It’s an interesting effect, since both voices are isolated in different physical speakers yet they still occupy the same position in the mix.
-------------------------------------
And three different projects currently in the pipeline for release this year by Mr. Print - NICE!

Lots to choose from, here's a few off the top of my head:

James Taylor - "Her Town Too"
Porcupine Tree - "My Ashes"
Steven Wilson - "Permanating"
Mando Diao - "Romeo" (definitely try soloing the center and the fronts separately on this one, the two voices are 100% separated)
Billy Joel - "Rosalinda's Eyes"
