Since the SM comes from Australia, i thought i'd try some music from Australia–this sounds GREAT through my SM v.2!

Get the "oils on the water", goat Island concert. It's probably the best live concert I have viewed
And/or they could license the technology, which is way more interesting than what's usually built in.
The trouble is that it is hard to walk into the front door of any major CE company......there are no doors. I have lost count of the amount of letters/ emails I have written only to get no reply.

How about CES? Was Involve there?

Hmmm, not sure how a CD-4 LP would decode through a QS decoder, I've never tried it
Just a thought here, as I don’t (yet) have a surround master, but an undecoded CD-4 played through it seems like it would have results much like a stereo disc played through it. Sure, not a true decode, but perhaps a pleasing effect.

Not this year. We have been there 2 times but our stand was in the outer "burbs" and frankly we did not have out act together. Logistically it's a $30k to $50k experience just to do it on a small scale. To get a better position and better stand we would need to spend around $100k, and that is just a start.
I would do it but our deceased usa distributor Keven died from cancer and funded his cancer treatment by not paying us around $100k (no health insurance). Also right now our own solar battery company owes Involve around $200k (due to stupid government changes to inverter regulations... Not related to batteries). This has stopped local battery sales and screwed cash flow by around $700k.

Also just got though the 3 week Xmas holiday break which also kills cash flow. Also just had to fork out over $100k for UL approvals for sales of batteries into Canada and USA.

It's a battle running a group of 2 small companies of 12 people from the arse end of the world, with zero marketing budget

Yes but I believe the disc makers snuck some form of matrix encode into the stereo mix. I have had many reports of the SM doing nice decodes of CD 4 disc's. Remember at the time one of the major issues was universal compatibility

Okay, i'm channeling @fredblue here: belt this one out to the tune of "Baker Street":

Settlin’ into that spot that is sweet

Light in my head and dead on my feet
Well another SM day
I spun the night away
To forget about ev’rything

Quadraphonic Quad makes me feel so good
It’s got so many people, all of whom would
Listen to surround
To lift them up when they’re down
Music can heal just about everything

I wish that everyone had a Surround Master
I hope that everyone gets a Surround Master

Tell ‘em Clement, tell ‘em Clement sent you!

This one is bringing back memories: We used to dance the night away to this LP back in the day! This RSD gold vinyl exclusive (1000 copies) was in the sale bin at Squeezebox the last time i made the pilgrimage. It's never sounded better–blows my OG 1981 pressing outta the ocean . . . well, it might also have something to do with the SM v.2! So much fun rear speaker action with popping percussion and background vocals and horn fills and swelling keyboards! I may dance the night away like it was 1981! Mucho Sonic Fun!

From my own experience, playing an undemodulated CD-4 record through any matrix decoder would be the same as playing a stereo record through the decoder. CD-4 records don't have a "hidden matrix"; on the other hand, UD-4 records did.

Yes that is what I thought but I have had several reports of really good decode on the CD4 discs. It would have been very simple to sneak a little bit of phase info into the recording Perhaps not the full RM blend of 0.414 but maybe 0.21 as it would easily pass as normal stereo then. Cannot prove it though!

The Alan Parsons Project fooled with phase manipulation on a lot of their stuff. Listen to Eye In The Sky through the Surround Master. It sounds spectacular...not discrete as the 5.1version, but equally pleasing.

Ditto with some Moody Blues stuff as they also were phase happy. Their album Octave is the only recording where I've actually had to turn down the rears when played through the SMv2 because it is too overwhelming.

Thanks SO much for mentioning the Moody Blues! It's been WAY too long since i spun this stereo SHM-SACD i picked up in Japan several years ago (Long Distance Voyager, indeed!). Not only do the piercing blues of the SM v.2 work nicely with the band's moniker, but the SM v.2 itself makes this release sound, well, . . . AMAZING! Go figure!
