The thing I hate in the music and video industry is forced obsolescence. They want to make you buy the same titles again by making the old versions unplayable.
There are some wackos who have to have the latest in technology and throw out their old stuff because it is old technology. They are like the ones who throw out last year's music because it is old. But I want to keep ALL of the recordings I have, not just the newest.
I have records as old as 1908. I need the ability to play all recordings, not just the latest stuff. We do not need any more new formats. And I already have to have way too many players.
These are all of the formats that I know exist.

There are others I didn't list, plus a myriad of computer formats.
DAT-MD-DCC-(S-VHS)-VHS HiFi-MVI-DualDisc........
It's REALLY ultimately depressing how many LOSSY formats, in both video and audio, the Majors have foisted upon us and I could kick myself in the ass for how many of them I actually invested in.
All that time and energy not to mention MONEY wasted on trying to get the latest, greatest [HUH!] version of a favorite album or video in hindsight what turned out to be only a fraction of the fidelity and resolution contained on those 30/15 ips MASTER TAPES and 35mm Film Negatives!!!!!!
And a lot of QQ posters still question my motives why in 2020 A.D. I vehemently eschew lossy formats and even BD~V [over 4K] when we have the tools and resources to FINALLY capture the FULL 30/15 ips/DDD 24 bit resolution of those Analogue/Digital master tapes and/or 35mm Film Negatives!
JUST IMAGINE if all those resources had been focused on perfecting the DELIVERY of SURROUND SOUND instead of 'dicking' us around with inferior, clunky formats which when compared to a modern multi~ch SACD/MLP DVD~A/BD~A.... frankly sound PATHETIC!
