I've got two 16-track Ampex 456 masters that I'd like to transfer to digital.
They're from an "album" I recorded with professional musicians in 1979/1980.
I'd like to transfer them to digital and so I can try my hand at a 5.1 mix.
Ampex 456 tape is a nightmare; they'll have to be baked.
The only studio I've found that still has 2" 16 track is in New Jersey.
I live in CA, but it's not necessary that I find a studio in my state.
Any state that's not to expensive to fly to would be okay.
The key is not to spend an arm and a leg; this is really just for fun.
Another option: shipping the tapes to a trusted engineer who will simply perform the transfer to digital multitrack.
Any suggestions welcome.
