I've finally ordered myself a copy of the first Motown album from Michael McDonald on Multichannel SACD. Was only $13 (including shipping) for a copy in very good condition, so I went for it. It should be here sometime next week! :)

Ummmmmmmmmmm whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?? :yikes

Mine did as well (from Import CDs), as my main Denon is being repaired :howl I connected up my spare old Denon (non-Blu-ray) to discover the rear analogue channels have packed in (only outputs 2.0/5.1 over analogue from SACD) so stereo only for SACD until the Universal Player comes back, aarrgh :howl :flame

You'll really like that SACD

I'll be curious about that one...I stayed away because I'd heard it was overly compressed...let us know what you think..

Yes, I liked it and the first musically. I haven't listened to it in ages, so when my Denon comes back from repair I'll give it a listen in 5.1. I can only listen to stereo on SACDs as the old machine has lost its rear analogue outputs :( I'll give it a listen later on today in boring old 2 channel and report back!

I'd heard that Motown 2 was the better sounding disc...do you have that one?

I just acquired my fourth HFPA Blu Ray: Mando Diao – "Ælita"

Comes with full fledged 96kHz/24bit streams in Stereo as well as in 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio AND an Auro 3D 9.1.

I've just listened to it very briefly, so I can't comment in detail, but I will say that for contemporary Pop it sounds pretty terrific. Solid, in some cased dry as a bone bass, good highs, albeit sometimes bit too low on the mids. Surround is not as spectacular as I'd hoped, but it still sounds vastly different to the good ol' Stereo Track. Plus: The tracks in stereo is a whole lot louder and not as well defined as the DTS HD one.

Major disclaimer: I won't be able to comment on the Auro Track though as I my Receiver doesn't know what to do with it and I don't want anymore speakers as I already own...

I've just listened to Michael McDonald's Motown 1 & 2 SACDs in stereo :)( :violin), and I'd say the 2nd is slightly better than the first from an audio quality point-of-view, I think the drums and Bass are compressed more on the first than the 2nd, and maybe the 2nd is a bit 'brighter'. But I'd say musically I prefer 1 to 2, 2 is good but has fewer songs I really like on it.

Thanks(y)..I went ahead and ordered Motown 1 because it was so cheap...less than $13 delivered...so nothing to lose...when I wanted to hear Michael McDonald my "go to" was a blu ray concert..it actually has 2 concerts on it...one was Motown...very entertaining and his voice sounds excellent...I mention that because a more recent blu ray I purchased...he sounded horrible...it's the typical concert sound...not discreet...but the content is off the charts....it's this one

At that price its a no-brainer I paid about twice that a few years ago plus postage/packing and import duty!
