Hmmm. I’ll have to check, but I have a PDQ Bach that says it’s quad on the cover, but not on the disc. I’m pretty sure it’s the “Wurst” disc, but as of today, it’s still in the moving box.
I'm sure that about 15 years ago, I read an article featuring Joni Mitchell in which she had been working with an unnamed record company about assembling a career retrospective of her work. The company (clearly not Rhino) asked is there were any unreleased tracks they could include? She was adamant with then that there were absolutely none whatever. Perhaps she realised that she'd forgotten about the tracks she's left behind the fridge...

Carlile revealed on The Daily Show Wednesday that Mitchell — who made a surprise, unannounced return to the stage this past summer at the Newport Folk Festival — will take part in the “Echoes Through the Canyon” shows scheduled for June 2023 at the scenic Washington state venue.
“Joni Mitchell is going to play. No one’s been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years,” Carlile said. “So this is enormous, and she’s so excited because it’s close to Canada… I can’t believe it’s happening, but it is happening, and she is going to crush it.”
Prior to the Newport Folk Festival gig — which Carlile also participated in — Mitchell hadn’t played a full live set since 2000. The singer has spent the past decade working her way back from a brain aneurysm in 2015 but has frequently hosted private “Joni Jams” sessions at her California home during her recovery. Those gatherings — often attended by Carlile — were the catalyst for the Newport performance.
“I still can’t believe that happened,” Carlile told host Trevor Noah. “It was just a few months ago, and the fact that it was at Newport Folk Festival, which is such a monumental and historic place. [Mitchell] always has a plan. She knows what she wants to do even if she doesn’t say it.”
Carlile added, “We thought it was a jam. We didn’t know that she was going to sing all the leads on those songs. She just started singing. We had rehearsed the songs ourselves. And we didn’t know whether we should stop or what we should do, you know, so we just sang with her.”
After the Newport show, Mitchell told Carlile, “I want to do another show. She said, ‘I want to play again.’” Carlile — a Seattle native who previously played “Echoes Through the Canyon” shows at the Gorge in 2021 with a lineup that included Sheryl Crow — suggested a return to the venue she dubbed “one of the most beautiful venues in the world.”
The two-day “Echoes Through the Canyon” fest will feature Carlile headlining the first night on June 9, followed by an all-star, Joni Jams-style performance fronted by Mitchell on June 10. Other participating artists have not yet been announced.

They should rename it “Ladies Of The Canyon.”

Continuing an off-topic thread - so I dug up the records, and I have two copies of The Wurst of P.D.Q. Bach. Both covers show a quad (VSQ 4007/8) catalog number, and both show a stereo (VSD-719/20) catalog number. Unfortunately, all discs have the stereo catalog number. I don't recall where I bought one, but the other was on ebay and advertised as quad. I've seen another copy on ebay and asked about the number on the disc label, and the listing was revised to stereo.
The front cover looks like the print run could have had both on it as well, since the VSD number is pretty close to the bottom of the cover in a large black area, and it could have room at the top for the quad number. I've seen a lot of mono/stereo releases with that sort of cover labeling.
79 years old today, and evidently ready for many more trips around the sun. She is stardust, she is golden.

I anticipate that there will also be an HDTracks download release of the same material in hi res.
Enough with the fuckin’ drama, are we getting Joni in modern physical surround or not?
This is just a continuation of the Archive series while boomers interested in demos, alternate takes and live tracks are still around to buy. The jury is still out regarding any future release of the Joni quads. In the meantime, all we’ve got for Joni in surround is “Both Sides Now” in 5.1, if you can find it(and lossy Atmos streams). Hope springs eternal for future digital releases of “Court and Spark” and “The Hissing of Summer Lawns” in quad.
The new Atmos mixes of both titles are leagues better than the old quads, I'd almost prefer that those get a hi-res physical or digital release.
