Without Amazon’s clout (and $$) it’s possible that some of these Warner and UMG tracks would never otherwise see a multichannel (including Dolby Atmos) release. Especially for one or two hit wonder artists. For example, without Tidal do you think that we’d get a Blu-ray Audio disc with Kenny Rogers - The Gambler? This is the positive way to look at this announcement.
I am not a fan of streaming. I prefer physical discs followed by music downloads. Obviously the business model for Amazon Music and Tidal are the complete opposite. If Amazon is smart, it will partner with AVR manufacturers to support HD streaming though non-Amazon devices. This would allow them to maximize their subscription base. All Amazon streaming devices are essentially loss-leaders.
