For me record store day is more about the party that takes place at the record store..The one I go to specialises in soul and has mainly stuff that i don't own...and since I've been collecting records since 1967 thats a good thing..most other stores feel like a repeat of what i have at home...and the store owner knows what I like, so I'm happy to buy his recommendations without listening to them...and I did on saturday...but with RSD stuff i did buy the doors matrix and I'll probably get the van morrison alternative moondance...(although I've got the cd box set with 5.1 mix).... anyway here's a snippet of one of the bands (The Bamboos) playing live...the link is from facebook so I'm not sure how it will come out here

I was abroad and far from any record store, so no live RSD for me. I'm doing an offline RSD in Discogs now...
Question for the ones who bought Piper and How Big the Space on a store: how much were they?

Ok ,so I guess I am an idiot.... When is record store day? is it monthly, yearly, weekly? I don't believe anything like what christopher posted happens around me at the music shops, that looks like an awesome party, pretty damn good band, Is record store day a party like that for all you guys? is it only for promotion of vinyl? i've heard them mention it on the xm radio but never really knew what the hell it was.

Usually 2 times a year - about this time and near November - and no not a party like Christopher........mainly get to store hope not big line (some people get there waaaaaaaaaaay early) and hope they have what you want by time you get in.......Snood usually go later in day and sometimes even next. :sneaky:

You guys need to come out to Melbourne Australia for RSD !!...In melbourne there were other stores that had various bands playing throughout the day..For Instance "Basement discs" in Melbourne had Dan Sultan doing a set...

I was out looking today in my record store and found How Big The Space for 9.99. I did not see it when I looked the Monday after record store day. Going to play it today.

Didn't go out on the day of, but this week grabbed a couple of classic double-LP Gatefold colored vinyl.
My local shop owner said it was his best RSD ever, he's very pleased with the tweaks that allowed him to gauge interest in titles before ordering.

Studio One Reggae Compilation, side 4 is a 45 RPM discomix of Skylarking.

One track per each side

Going to be spacing out on this tonight and dreaming of a Steven Wilson 5.1 remix of Phaedra.

I finally found a store that had a leftover copy of the Bowie Welcome to the Blackout 3LP set. Looking forward to giving it a spin. Lots of folks are saying that they like it better than Stage.

On the subject of Bowie, if anyone is thinking about seeing the David Bowie Is exhibit in Brooklyn, it is well worth going. It was a really wonderful experience. There was one disappointment though. One of the reasons why I wanted to go was because they were selling an LP in the gift shop (Live in Berlin 1978) that could only be purchased at the Brooklyn Museum. When I got the LP home and played it, I discovered that the LP was mastered from a slow tape! (n) Very annoying. I noticed it immediately when I put the record on. You would think that someone else involved in producing the LP would have picked up on that too. Well, at least the orange vinyl is pretty......

I see TT costs low on CL and a local store has a shitload of 180 gram LP's. Real nice selection too. I think I'm going to break down and go back to vinyl. He has a 180 G copy of Court and Spark, my all time favorite Joni album. It just stays on my mind, like it's asking me for a new home! Real fair price too.

Prices on new vinyl is good, still average $20.00. Saw a dude come out of BB with a album, he says he loves the sound. How many used record stores you have in your area? We have 3 I know of, and all are thriving. One guy who passed had worked on the Kiss tours, he knew Gene and Gene would give him memorabilia to sell in his store.

They have taken "High Definition" and applied it to various products..many don't have anything to do with electronics.. like automakers who are calling their audio systems "surround" when in fact they are just stereo systems..which "surround" the passengers with sound..
True, or a Bose box with 2 speakers that are 12 inches apart is "Surround Sound", but this is a technological twist "supposed" to yield a high-rez version of vinyl. Of course, since it has not been commercially released I can't say. I do tend to prefer half speed mastered LPs though, I'm sure those have their detractors also.

(going off topic some here) Lord, Lord. I regret to say I haven't even seen a record store in about 20 years. I'm sure there exists at least one yet in Gainesville, but that's a bit of a trek for me these days.
Reminds of something, though....I used to work in R&D and had a young UF student as an intern a few hours a day. I would talk about music, probably in great detail, and
he would go to a used record store, find the LP and play it through the weekend, come back and discuss it with me on Monday. I think maybe Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus
was about the first of many dredged from my memory. Good memories of those days.

Sardonicus is among my 10 favorite albums. Yesterday, I listened to my latest copy from the 4 CD UK box.
