My first thought was, “Because he’s David effin’ Gilmour, that’s why!”

Hard to believe it’s been almost a decade since the last album. Time is rushing by fast.

Anyway... pre-ordered.
The guitarist and songwriter's fifth solo album was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. David co-produced with ALT-J's Charlie Andrew and Marika Hackman, with lyrics mostly written by Polly Samson. Of this new working relationship, David says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”.

Perhaps Roger Waters had a word with Charlie Andrew, requesting less guitar solos!

The album is released on 6 September, which I've just read is Waters' birthday. That's a nice present for his old bandmate 🎂 !!

Only accessible from the UK, but it seems there will be a deluxe edition and a UK tour! Check the pic I took with a VPN

obviously very excited about this news, and for me, this could be the album of the year for me.
Of course, questions still linger such as:
  • will there be live shows? certainly hope so! I'm prepared to travel at least within the US to finally hear him live.
  • will we still possibly get "The Wall" in 5.1 surround/Dolby Atmos this year? hope so! with DG's album out on Sept 6th, that still leaves spaces for "The Wall" either in July (before the new record comes out) or Oct/Nov/Dec, just in time for the holidays.
hope springs eternal!

:)

There has been talk he will do a tour but IDK about a US swing, we can only pray.
I've been blessed enough to have seen PF three times, the last in 1994 at Soldier Field, Chicago.
One more time before I die, Please Lord!

No stand alone BD from that source?
Strange, everyone else is showing one?
For $55 you get a tote and your choice of format.

Preordered.

I got to see him live twice on the Rattle that Lock tour. Well worth seeing him if he does go on tour. I'm cautiously optimistic he will, but with his age it just might not be in the cards.

I saw Pf on the '76 tour at Tampa Stadium. Excellent show. But that's all, just the one time.
Apologies in advance, but I just can't stop myself from being That Guy: 1976 was the first year since the band formed that they didn't play any shows at all.

You're probably thinking of April 24, 1977.

The show in '87 at Tampa Stadium was in surround sound, and the rear speakers took up multiple rows of seating. Best sounding concert I have ever heard. Saw them another time in Tampa Stadium, and another in Orlando, in the rain.
