Dear Warner team,

Today, I learned that Phil Collins' solo albums will be re-released as remastered editions, with "Jacket" and "Both Sides" coming later this year. I am more than excited to learn this is finally happening.

As you might know, engineer Allen Sides remixed least some of Phil Collins' albums into 5.1 surround sound over a decade ago, and those mixes were never released:

I am sure many fans would be delighted to hear these surround mixes. Is there any chance the 5.1 versions will be included in the upcoming re-releases? This fan says: please make it happen!

Best regards,

Feel free to send your own (don't copy-paste mine though).

I sent an email with the surround request and also a PLEA to not destroy the dynamic range of the recordings during the remastering process...I can just hear someone that reads my email.."hey Bill....here is one of those loudness war nut cases, I'll just delete that email"...I had to include that for my own sanity...

It seems though that the Record Company jury is out as to whether a box set that includes less "popular" CD's like Both Sides and DITL is worth it...my feeling is that any kind of box set is not complete unless it IS complete.

poor Phil, he must rely on label's money 'cause afraid to become homeless, if will mortgage his house
to get a funds for re-issue of his back catalog.

No response yet, btw.
you're surprised?

Well looks like we can take this rumor (concerning surround that is) and throw it right in the waste bin…
But hey, who needs surround when you can have updated album covers?! :violin

The Official Phil Collins site has also been updated with some info on these new reissues, but as of now, the preorder links are not functioning correctly yet.
My wallet breathes a sigh of relief…

Here's a box set image for the "Take a Look at Me Now…" box set.
It comes with the first 2 reissues of "Face Value" and "Both Sides", but there's space in the box set for the other deluxe CD editions when they are released.

The vinyl box is exactly the same way.

Goddammit.

Not even 12" mixes, and I can think of one b-side right off the top of my head that's missing, too. ("Rad Dudeski" from one of the Both Sides singles, don't remember which, but I have the MCD at home).

Face Value is really the only one I'd like to hear in surround. Has way more atmosphere than the other records. That said, I'll probably get these. Will be nice to hear some of these live versions.

For those who are interested, preorders are now up on amazon. Around $20 for each 2-CD set or $40 for both together in the box set.
Not a bad price at all, but I'll still pass and check them out instead via streaming services like Spotify or TIDAL. It's what I does for stereo. ;)

The updated covers and involvement of Nick "everything upfront" Davis makes me think those have not just been remastered but remixed in stereo... but not surround. Well, not released in surround...
