How about a Wallich's Music City commercial? I bought many of my late release SQ records there after all other stores quit stocking them. One odd thing was I don't remember them ever selling quad reel to reel tapes, but they had a good selection of stereo ones including new releases. Went out of business around 1978.

Here's a useless Wikipedia entry for them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallichs_Music_City

How about a King Karol commercial (for all the NYC folks): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf05VdwciRc

OK, Wallich's Music City it is.
Mel Blanc selling records outside Wallich's for Capitol (1:31 on video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6IMuRICNP0 He also visits Capitol and learns how records are made.

Back when I was 13 I worked at a Sounds Good[I was paid in merchandise since I was under age to work].....then several years later I came close to working at Rose Records near where I work[they wanted someone who knew about classical music but I admitted that I really didn't know much.....I should've fibbed].

Musicland (text in post #14 this thread), Muscatine Mall, Muscatine, IA

Does anyone else remember the conveyor belt in the tape case at Musicland?

Musicland had a store in most malls in the US. Woodfield, the mega-mall near my house actually had 2 Musiclands for over 10 years!

Musicland here at Apache Mall always had the very latest releases right up front so you could see them from outside the store.

I remember more than once picking up one of those latest releases and then wandering back to the racks to flip through LPs for a couple of hours.

What a way to spend a couple of hours.

In the '90's and new millennium, Farwell Records in Milwaukee was a KILLER used store. Luke Lavin, the owner was a great guy to deal with, Honest, knowledgeable and personable. A great jazz selection! Store went out of business a few years ago because landlord raised the rent. Luke called it quits. Luke at computer in his great store:

All these pictures of huge record stores with deep, deep selections makes me wanna cry.
I miss them more than I can describe.

Salzers in Ventura California is still going strong after 50 years. I was his first employee and we had about 200 albums in stock at the time. I remember getting in a few cases of slapovers of Yesterday and Today that summer.
