I just saw his concert last night in Phoenixville, PA (it was a great show!, tho I was probably the youngest person there šŸ˜… ) I picked up the concert programme, and I noticed something interesting being advertised on the back page. A huge 24 disc CD+DVD box set focusing on his activities between 1973 and 1977. The set prominently advertises an UNRELEASED 1976 QUADRAPHONIC CONCERT. I also think it wouldn't be too far-fetched to include the quad mixes of his albums from this era on DVD, but I can't find anywhere online that gives a definitive answer of what exactly is on each disc. Maybe you QQ sleuths could help me figure it out! ;)

Interesting timing. I was just going through some boxes of junk good stuff, and found this program. I see that the picture is on one of the items being offered.

The ticket stubs show that the concert was at the Hollywood Bowl, and it was one of the best concerts I'd ever seen. Of course, it was mostly Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but also had plenty of Six Wives, and the delightful Commercial Concerto.

And check out the price! Even with inflation, that's a pretty good deal!

The quad masters were said to be lost when those three albums were last reissued about a decade ago, hence the inclusion of fan-made conversions from a four-channel tape or LP source on the CD/DVD sets. Maybe they finally turned up?

My recollection is that the vault searches for the known Wakeman A&M quad masters (which were fruitless because they likely perished in the UMG vault fire) turned up another previously unknown quad mix - I thought it might've been the White Rock soundtrack, but maybe it was this "1976 Quadraphonic Concert".

It's a shame that they didn't ask King Records in Japan when they were doing those deluxe editions because they probably have safety copies of the quad mixes of Six Wives and Journey in their vaults from when they cut and released CD-4s of those two albums.

It's pretty easy to find out what's on King Arthur, Journey, and White Rock. Hopefully the quad concert is the one they broadcast and simulcast in quad (which was pretty much the concert I saw at the Hollywood Bowl). I didn't know of his involvement in Lizstomania, and there are several other pictures I haven't seen before.

As I've noted several times, Rick's output has been uneven, although at his best, he's simply the best. I don't see "No Earthly Connection" anywhere, which is a good thing to be missing, IMNSHO. Maybe "Criminal Record" isn't considered "prog."

Hey frippp, I believe it is Rick alone, correct? What keyboards did he have? I am thinking about going to the show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City show on March 31and just checked out his set list.

I saw that show at Madison Square Garden and they were called out for a second encore so they played some of the material they had already played, over again. If you remember they played some television commercial theme songs besides Journey to the Center of the Earth and I believe some Six Wives

We also nad two encores, and the commercial concerto. Sounds like the same show, right down to the encores.

Rick Wakeman Emporium - The Prog Years Box Set
So unfortunately this approach is typical of the label that puts these releases out - they did similar with the Yes Union Live box set ā€¦. Put on pre sale with lots of nice pictures but no actual details of content which chopped and changed right up to release.

Iā€™m a massive Wakeman fan and this would be right up my street ā€¦ but at this point, apart from the vague mention of the 1976 concert, nothing much specific is badged as unreleased. A lot of what is mentioned points to stuff thatā€™s already been put out multiple times

I wish there was a good quadra transfert of the 6 wives. I don't even know it that exists...
I reply to myself, it does, though it is complex to get a hand on....

Thanks gentlemen. Unfortunately, you don't get under about 50 euro shipped... Discogs is a reliable source, my Tomita and Carlos album came from here. But it remains an expensive one.

Youā€™d think if the box contained out of print Quad versions of the classic albums, that would be something to shout about at pre sale time. Yet with a 30 June 2023 release date, there is basically no info.

Matching the disc colours to the covers it looks - using the blurry text

6 Wives - 2 discs - maybe the album and a dvd with the Quad and the Whistle Test footage?

Arthur - 3 discs - the album, the dvd from the 2015 release and a dvd of the live show on ice?

Journey Part 1 - 4 discs - same 4 as the 2016 box??? Album, dvd with quad, live in Boston, live in Brunoā€™s Aries

Journey Part 2 ā€œLive & ????ā€ - assume some more live versions of Journey???

Listzomania - 4 discs - the original album, the revised album, the DVD of the movie and ??? Blu ray of movie???

No Earthly Connection - 3 discs - album, blu ray, live at the Maltings???

White Rock - 3 discs - album, outtakes, movie dvd

The Quadrophonic Concert - 3 discs - dvd and 2 CDs???

I guess my point in guessing is ā€¦ you could fill that box set with things that are already out there.

I have a concert DVD of Rick doing an expanded version of Six Wives.ā€ Itā€™s surround and mostly well done, although the guy he picked as a narrator didnā€™t take the job seriously and distracts and detracts from an excellent performance.

Thatā€™s a much more recent recording. Doubt itā€™s part of this. And the narrator is Brian Blessed, who I think is hilarious in it!

I guess weā€™ll have to agree to disagree on his ā€œcontribution.ā€ What is the later recording?
