Did CD-4 work well for you from day 1?

(I've never had a CD-4 system with all the proper CD-4 items - CD-4 cart - CD-4 turntable (w/low capacitance tonearm wiring) - CD-4 demod, my CD-4 cart was removed in 1976 and I got a CD-4 turntable in 1982 and a good demod in 1992)

IMHO, the key to CD-4 is using all CD-4 equip and properly aligning the turntable.

Kind sir, if you could give a solid recommendation (or a few) for each item in that chain, it would be greatly appreciated.
My next Quad mission is to get CD-4 up and running properly.

I had the usual stumbles, at first, sandpaper, that "thin" sound like it was ready to break into distortion, etc. but it didn't take long to discover the causes and correct them. Yes, mainly turntable set up, and correct demodulator adjustments. Mainly following the CD-4 rules.

I have even thought some are having trouble with certain turntables that may not work no matter what. I can't confirm that since I have not tried a lot of different tables but tracking is very important. I only know my BICs work great.

And, as I have stated before, it has only gotten better over the years.

My only recommendation is to get a Pickering XUV-4500Q CD-4 cartridge (it's a 2nd generation CD-4 cart [never owned one], but it's highly rated):

Most turntables made from the early 1970s to the early 1980s have [CD-4 required] low capacitance wiring in the tonearm, I don't have any specific recommendations although Technics and JVC 1970s vintage turntables would almost certainly be CD-4 ready.

I have both a Pioneer QX-747 and Technics SH-400 CD-4 demodulators, I recommend the Technics SH-400.

They fit the entire Carpenters album on one side of a CD-4 record? Wow!

I have a donny hathaway q8 but someone recorded over it. i plan on re recording onto the q8 from the cd-4. I have a hotcakes but want a better copy. I have most of the enoch light cd-4s and really love them so im excited to get the polyphonics disc. Those enoch light cd-4 discs are very hard to find in my opinion and rather expensive when you do. The montenegro rocket man was ordered because I have montenegros neils diamonds and the stevie wonder montenegro and they are incredible. its hard to believe the sound quality on some of those rca quadradiscs! I also cant believe some of the discs that baggy got ahold of, many of which I spent BIG BUCKS for
