OK, couldn't resist - giving a fast spin just to get the basic idea of sound. Sounds excellent.....to be honest, I'm surprised. While I wanted this disc, I figured somehow it wouldn't sound that great. I think it has a real nice QUAD sound. I won't say too much more till I really give it a thorough listen. Let's just say it will hold its own against all the other recent QUAD SACD releases.

I had the same reaction....I was busy doing something else and had it on briefly in the background and it sounded very good...much better than I thought it would..we are on a freaking ROLL:spot

Yep, I suspect what will bring down the votes in the poll will be the basic content. I imagine many of us bought this who never owned the original LP. I'm included...so...I bought it because, well, it's Alice, and it's Quad. My vote will reflect that too I think.

I'm going to try to spend more time with this one before I vote....you are spot on about the content...but hey...it's not another progressive title..which is a welcome change...although I'm liking that genre more than I ever did before...I try to buy all these surround titles and give them a chance..and these AF titles are reasonably priced so you can take a chance on them..

Heck yes. Don't get me wrong.....I'm buying these because I know it's a moment in time. 10 years from now these likely will NOT be available...except on Ebay. So, I'm good....it's a nice hobby that I enjoy a lot.

Earlier this year I was joking about this "mondo super duper" set from the Grateful Dead and how pricey it was....and it even offered a USB alternative instead of the 80 disc box set for the same price...well...never underestimate the loyalty of the Dead Head fan base..I noticed it SOLD OUT here

I bet you were wondering what happened on this day 100 years ago...well maybe not...but I'm going to tell you anyway...in an upstairs tenement at 415 Monroe St in Hoboken, New Jersey a child of Italian immigrants was born. He weighed 13.5 pounds at birth and had to be delivered with the aid of forceps, which caused severe scaring to his left cheek, neck, and ear, and perforated his ear drum, damage that remained for life. This young man developed an interest in music, particularly big band jazz. This young man was Frank Sinatra. Today I'm going to listen to my newly acquired Sinatra SACD's and watch a TV special I recorded earlier this week about his music. Today will be Frank Sinatra Day for me!

From David Gilmour's FaceBook page (Sao Paulo last night)...Anyone besides me want a blu ray from this concert?? :D What a fantastic mix of songs as he covered decades of PF/DG...

When lighting genius Marc Brickman says of last night's concert "that was David's best concert ever" you know that something very special took place. The atmosphere in the stadium was crackling with anticipation as the 45,000 chanted "David Gilmour", led by the 'standing room' only fans on the pitch. The afternoon thunderstorms had cleared and everyone was ready to enjoy a concert that they had waited many years to witness. The sea of iPhone lights twinkled around the stadium as the band began the opening '5 A.M.'. Between songs the chanting would start up, and at one point, just before 'A Boat Lies Waiting' David had to gently ask for some quiet.
Last night 'Money', 'Fat Old Sun' and 'Comfortably Numb' had rarely been played better, the extended improvised soloing saw David's playing scale the heights, supported superbly by the band, who all seemed to be inspired by the wonderful audience. David told them: "How beautifully you are singing". As the band leave São Paulo for the next leg of the tour, they will take with them great memories of both concerts, not least the powerful sound of over 45,000 voices accompanying them.
Here's what was played last night:
First set: 5 A.M., Rattle That Lock, Faces Of Stone, Wish You Were Here, A Boat Lies Waiting, The Blue, Money, Us And Them, In Any Tongue, High Hopes.
Second set: Astronomy Domine, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Fat Old Sun, Coming Back To Life, On An Island, The Girl In The Yellow Dress, Today, Sorrow, Run Like Hell
Encore: Time / Breathe (reprise), Comfortably Numb.

Clint, Acoustic Sounds is likewise guilty of sitting on 'upcoming' SACD remasters, as well, as they, too are first and foremost PRO VINYL. The Peter Paul and Mary albums 1700 and Live in Concert on SACD were announced well over a year ago, as were the Henry Mancini titles http://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&searchtext=henry,mancini&categoryID=4 and are currently available on Vinyl but not even a release date has been announced for these much anticipated releases on SACD.

Audio Fidelity ARE the reigning champs at releasing SACDs in a timely fashion and still release in Vinyl, as well.

Of course, Surrealistic Pillow is currently available as 2 45rpm LPs from MoFi......ironically, ONLY 34 minutes of music on 4 sides of 2 LPs: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/110622/Jefferson_Airplane-Surrealistic_Pillow-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record Even I cannot imagine getting up every 8 1/2 minutes to flip over or change a record...........Talk about a "Plastic Fantastic LOVER!"

If there was any doubt about Analogue Productions being only mildly interested in SACD's...releasing a Christmas SACD in the middle of January should convince even the most ardent supporter...even too late for Christmas in Serbia(January 7th)...check this out

Since no one's brought up this news on here yet, I figured I might as well do it myself:

R.E.M. has entered into a multi-year, worldwide licensing agreement with Concord Bicycle Music for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's catalog recorded from 1988 to 2011.

The deal covers the years R.E.M. recorded for Warner Bros. The group's pact with the Burbank-based label expires at the end of the year and the Concord deal begins in early 2016. Among the albums under the new agreement are Green, Out of Time, Automatic For the People, Monster, New Adventures in Hi-Fi, and Up. Worldwide sales for these albums tally in excess of 85 million albums, according to Concord.

"The band and all at REMHQ [CQ] are very happy to be joining with Concord Bicycle Music for this next phase of curating and extending R.E.M.'s recorded legacy," said longtime R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs in a statement. "The albums covered by this agreement are some of the band's most successful, both artistically and commercially, and we know the people at Concord share our enthusiasm about this partnership. We leave the Warner Bros. family, a great label where we are certainly grateful for some of our career highlights. But moving forward, we knew this was the right time to change it up and Concord is the right home for this key part of R.E.M.'s catalog."

The Concord deal does not include R.E.M.'s earlier albums recorded on I.R.S., which now go through Universal Music Group. R.E.M., which formed in Athens, Ga., in 1980, disbanded in 2011. Should the band reform to make any new recordings, they are not covered under the current Concord Bicycle deal.

While no timetable has been set, Concord Bicycle plans to release deluxe reissues of the albums with bonus material and exclusive packaging on its Concord imprint.

The deal reunites the band with Sig Sigworth, Concord Bicycle's SVP of Catalog Management & Development, who was a driving force in bringing R.E.M.'s catalog to the company. His association with the band, who sources say wanted to be back with an independent label, extends to their I.R.S. days.

"After starting my career at I.R.S. Records and having the pleasure to work with R.E.M., it was disappointing when the band left to go to Warner Bros.," said Sigworth in a statement. "I've had the good fortune to consult with the band on their catalog for the past several years, but to now, all these years later, be able to bring the band and their incredible post-I.R.S. legacy to the Concord Bicycle Music family is very rewarding."

R.E.M. left I.R.S. Records in 1988 for Warner Bros., following the release of 1987's Document. The group, at the height of its popularity -- and at a time when record label coffers were much larger -- re-signed with Warner Bros. in 1996 for a reported $80 million, which was at that time the largest recording contract ever believed to be inked.

Terms of the deal with Concord Bicycle were not disclosed. The R.E.M. licensing arrangement is the latest in a number of acquisitions by Concord Bicycle this year, including making a "substantial investment" in Razor & Tie, and buying the Sugar Hill and Vanguard labels.

I wonder if this new Licensing deal will include a reissue of the 5.1 mixes on Blu-Ray. Warner Bros should definitely not have the rights to release those 5.1 mixes anymore since R.E.M. have always held the recording rights to those albums, including both the stereo and 5.1 mixes, with Warner Music simply acting the distributor. Let's hope this new deal includes brining those 5.1 mixes back to the forefront once again! :)

Since this turned into a double post, I'll post about this instead:

Since the premiere of the new documentary on 10cc entitled "I'm Not In Love: The Story of 10cc", there's been a reappraisal of the band work's along with the work of all members away from the group.

Steven Wilson, for example, has just written a piece for his website on Godley & Creme's album "Consequences", an album he holds in very high regard! :)

Some trivia...

A gentleman named Mark James wrote BJ Thomas hit, Hooked On A Feeling. He also wrote Suspicious Minds, made popular by Elvis Presley. Finally, another monster hit for Willie Nelson, Always On My Mind was also written by James.

Those are 3 big time hits....
