I am copying this from a thread on the SH site.

"I have seen no confirmation that Warner/Rhino got a hold of the real master tapes for current LP or CD remasters. The original master tapes are in the UK, and all US pressings previously were from 2nd gen copies, with the exception of the mid 70s CD-4 Quad LP which was 1/2 speed mastered form the original 4 channel mix. That is the LP to hear."

Is it the case that the CD-4 was 1/2 speed mastered from the master tape?

I could be wrong, but I thought that all CD-4 LPs were 1/2-speed mastered. That was the only way to be able to get the high frequency subcarriers on vinyl. Also, virgin vinyl and line-contact (Shibata) stylii came from quadradisc technolgy, so vinyl audiophiles have a lot to thank quad for.

Yes, that is true. Half speed mastering was integral to the CD-4 mastering process. All CD-4 discs are half speed mastered.
