This one's probably a few months away from being released on BD but I've been waiting for the trailer for a few months so here it is if you haven't seen it already, movie hounds:

These 2 have made 4 rippers in a row which I recommend immediate purchase of if you dig genre-spanning thriller/horror/sci-fi's with great characters/stories/direction/special effects/scores:

Cool. Yeah, Moorhead and Benson's flicks get better the more you watch them. If you dug The Endless, you'll have to check out Resolution too.

American Psycho (1999) 4K:
1. This is the first time I've seen the 4K with Dolby Vision and it looks great. Worth the upgrade.
2. Surround mix is fine with score/music/sound design in the surrounds but nothing too discrete. Some decent low end from the club scenes and that chainsaw always sounds like it's coming out of my front speaker at me.
3. Such a great satire. Hilarious, horrific and endlessly quotable.

5. I ended up doing the double-feature with...

Vampire's Kiss (1988) BD:
1. Nic Cage is on fire! Also hilarious, horrific and endlessly quotable.
2. Stereo only but DTS Neo:X did a better job making a surround mix from it than some alleged 5.1 mixes.

I watched Brian DePalma's THE UNTOUCHABLES last night in Native UHD4K! What a cast. The studio originally wanted Bob Hoskins to play Al Capone but DePalma perservered and Robert DeNiro got the role! Paramount Home Video knocked this one out of the ballpark ....Great transfer and wonderful score by the legendary Ennio Morricone. Screenplay by David Mamet.

Soooooo many 4K releases now. they're coming thick and fast. Gon be a bit more discerning with my BD purchases from now on I ams.
Between September ~ December 2022, the major studios and KL, Arrow, SCREAM/SHOUT et alia are releasing a literal TON of 4K discs. I learned my lesson from jumping on new releases and MOST especially box sets as within months they are blown out for half price ... and even WAY less. GRUV.com in the states doesn't have a big 4K selection but they are adept at blowing out those Hitch and Universal Monster Collections for way less than 1/2 price and I've found their 20% off discount applies to even repeat and NOT just first time orders. Don't know if they ship to NZ, though, Pete!

Yep, glad I waited for this upcoming Motion Picture release with tidier special effects.
I bought the box, as I figured we'd be getting three 4K boxes:
  • I - IV (containing the full "Spock trilogy")
  • V, VI, & Generations (bridging the TOS/TNG gap)
  • First Contact, Insurrection, & Nemesis (the rest of TNG)
Now, it seems more likely that the I - IV box will be discontinued, replaced by the TOS box and the individual films. I hope that all four TNG films will be collected in one box (and also available separately), but it's possible those won't get the 4K/HDR upgrade.

After Yang (2022) BD:

1. Excellent, discrete and pretty much constant surround mix (DTS-MA 5.1) with some cool lows. Surround action matches what's happening on screen (i.e., someone behind you's voice comes from the surrounds). Twice I paused it as I thought it had started raining outside (it hadn't) or there was a weird bird chirp outside (there wasn't). Worth it for the surround mix alone.

2. Another goodie from Kogonada who directed Columbus (2017). Performances, cinematography, direction, score are all great.

3. Haley Lu Richardson from Columbus is in it too. Hope we get to see more of her cos she's excellent.

4. Cheap Region A-locked BD here: https://www.amazon.com/After-Yang-Blu-ray-Colin-Farrell/dp/B09X12Y72W Run time is wrong. It's just over 90 minutes.
