New pre-order release delays

What happens when pre-orders release dates are moved out. Is it due to higher pre-order demand, technical or manufacturing issues. Always seems to be when I'm waiting for a disc recently they are delayed. 3 of my 4 have been pushed out. I've decided to concentrate on Blu-Ray releases. Due to lower cost and if needed better resale options. Its difficult to start collecting DVD-Audio, or SACD, due to higher costs and low supply. And also the players needed can run at the least $500.00
